Downtown Manhattan, 1:36 pm July 3rd, 1970
The whole building erupted violently in flames which caused the windows to explode outwards. The ground cracked and caved from the force of the blast and the shockwave could be felt from miles away. The flames were so violent it scorched the brick walls of the neighbouring apartments. People who were walking by that building were instantly incinerated by the explosion. People screamed and ran from the scene as the heat grew and grew but across the street, a mother shielded her child from the blast but the boy could still see under her arms. He looked right into the bright flames even though they were too bright for him to see anything. However, he noticed someone walking from the inferno, someone who seemed completely unfazed by the scene behind him. He walked further from the fire which made it easier for the boy to boggle at this man. His trenchcoat was smoking a little which he noticed and he seemed a little annoyed by this as he muttered something under his breath.
The boy continued to stare even though her mother's pleas to follow with her. The man noticed this and gave a small smile and put his fingers to his lips and walked away in the opposite direction.
The man pulled out a cigarette and used a small flame on his coat to light it. He walked on naturally as fire engines roared by toward the towering inferno he left behind.
"That place had to go up the way it did." he thought, trying to remember where he parked his car.
He walked a few blocks then turned into the alleyway where waiting for him was a pitch-black 69' Dodge charger. He fished the keys out of his pocket and walked over to the driver's side.
"Zac you asshole!" someone yelled furiously
He looked to the entrance of the alleyway and sees a familiar figure in a brown jacket and messy hair. By the look on his face, he definitely was pissed.
"Cody!"Zac replied." How are you doing?"
"You stole my car, you moron! What the hell is wrong with you?"
"Okay, if I recall, you let me borrow it."
"2 weeks ago! You said it was for something important."
"It was important, now it's on fire so, TADAAA here's your car back."
"Oh god fucking damn it. Just give me the keys."
Zac tossed the keys to him and walked over to the passenger's side.
"What are you doing?" Cody asked
"What? Can I at least get a lift?"
"God da- fine. This is the last time I'm ever letting you borrow this car."
Both men got into the car and the engine roared to life. They drove out of the alleyway to see the building was just put out by firefighters. As they drove by all that remained was some sidewalls and window frames that somehow were still standing. Everything else was ash.
"How much power did you use dude?" Cody asked in disbelief
"Enough" Zac replied.
"What did they do?"
"They promised that they would clean my identity again after I ran an errand for them. To recover some missing shipment of A+ that went missing a week ago. "
Zac tossed the cigarette out of the window and rolled the window up. "Turns out they were leading me into a trap and they tried to kill me."
"So that's why the port mysteriously exploded 3 days ago"
"Pretty much. Damn vampires."
"Why would they want to kill you?"
Zac shrugged. "Beats me."
"Is it maybe because you slept with the mob boss' daughter?"Cody suggested, "Does that ring a bell?"
Zac smiled widely but still shrugged.
Cody sighed in annoyance. "Moron."
The engine roared on as he pressed on the accelerator. Zac pulled out another cigarette and manifested a small flame on his pinky finger using the sunlight through the window.
"Don't smoke in my car Zac."
"Why not?"
"Because it's annoying."
"Well you can't stop me right now, you're driving."
Zac then noticed a gun pointed at his head. It floated from Cody's jacket in the backseat.
"You do realise I can melt that," Zac said
"Can you do that faster than a bullet going through your brain?" The hammer pulled back on its own and the chamber rotated. The gun levitated closer to Zac's head until it lightly pressed against his hair. Cody wasn't actually going to kill him but his tone in voice could deceive anyone into thinking that they were going to die.
"Well well well, Cody can intimidate after all" Zac smiled
"Yes, I can" Cody replied. "I can control metal remember?"
"Yes. I remember"
"But seriously I will blow your fucking brains out if you don't stop smoking in my car"
Zac reluctantly cracked the window and tossed what was left of the cigarette out onto the street as they drove toward the precinct.
