She didn't like parties at all. Not one bit. She didn't like the fact that they were the centre of attention so she would not catch a break from the douche canoes who tried to take her for a dance. But her father insisted she attend this one after she skipped out on the last 2 celebrations. It was her birthday after all so she had no excuse this time. Her father was the top elite in vampire society and thus was super-rich compared to all the others.
Of course, this wealth was spent on pointless celebrations, multi-million dollar estates, and really ugly artwork. He also spent a vast amount on her as well. Jewellery, clothes, cars, private schooling when she was younger. She'll even inherit all her father's wealth and assets when he eventually dies. However, this has been her whole life. Even though she had everything, she didn't have friends. Well not anymore. A long time ago she had friends but they both had moved on with their lives.
There was a knock on the door. "Ms Kyle?"
She recognised the voice as one of her father's assistants. She smiled when she heard it.
"Come in." She said
His name was Johnathan Kent. There was never a time where she saw him in anything but a clean, sharp suit. Her father met him while they were in Africa. He was a part of the military until her father offered him a position as his right hand. Ever since then, he had taken care of Eleanor as she grew up and acted as her guardian while her "father" was in Dubai or Singapore, "savouring the flavours".
"The party is about to start. I suggest you hurry," he said.
"Sorry John, I was just thinking about some stuff."
He smiled as he sat next to her on her bed. He noticed the necklace she was wearing and he crooked his head to the side in quiet confusion.
"That was your mother's necklace. I've never seen you wear it before." He remarked, slightly surprised.
"Yeah, I thought it might be nice to wear it tonight," Eleanor replied. "You knew my mother?"
"Hmm? Yes, I did. She was a beautiful woman."
"Father never talks about her. What was she like?" Eleanor asked
John pondered for a moment as to work out what to say. This was a sensitive subject that was careful never to be brought up in front of her father.
"As I said, she was beautiful," He began, "The light in your father's eye. She was powerful but kind. You couldn't lie to her either. He couldn't spend much time with her so he spent millions on her instead. In the beginning, they were inseparable but as time grew, cracks started to show. She then became pregnant with you and that's when your father and your mother had their major disagreements."
Even though she was cold-blooded, Eleanor realised her palms were slightly sweaty. However, she was a bit too engrossed in the story to care at the moment.
"What did they disagree on?" She asked
He took a breath as if he was worn out but he continued anyway.
"Your mother wanted you to have a normal life like every other child. She didn't want to put you through what she went through. Your father, however, wanted you to be his successor. To rule the vampire dynasty if he ever passed. The only thing that they agreed on was your name."
John sounded as if he was about to cry but he kept his composure as sharp as possible. Eleanor remained quiet for a moment as to process this information. This was more of what she heard about her mother in years. Whenever she asked her father he dismissed her.
"Thank you, John." She said
"What for?"
"For..telling me this"
"You were entitled to it anyway, Ms Kyle. It was wrong to keep it from you for so long"
Even though it sounded crazy, Johnathan was more of a father than anyone else had been to her. He took care of her and provided for her when her father couldn't be bothered to.
To this thought, she suddenly hugged him. Surprised, he lightly patted her back in return. She was grateful that she had at least one person who cared.
"Ms Kyle, I believe the party from hell is waiting for you downstairs," He said
She broke off the hug and straightened her jacket.
"Right sorry," she apologised, "Let's go now."
"By the way, I have taken the liberty of inviting a few of your old friends to the party as well"
"My..Friends?" Eleanor was confused.
"I believe Mr Phillips and a Mr Barry?"He explained
"Oh no. You didn't"
