Chapter 7
My feet were a meal for anyone at this point, just add some seasoning and voilà!
By the time I arrived to the hospital with two guard dogs (Joe and manbun) and a poodle (my sister) I wanted to punch something. The blisters on my feet had popped which made it worse.
"I need to cut the skin around the wounds since the blisters are no longer intact. You see, the blisters were there to protect the wound but—"
"Yes doctor, I know. Can you get on with it because it fucking hurts."
Alexia had nudged me with a glare while manbun and Joe were trying not to burst laughing at the doctor's face. They're now best friends apparently, since they wouldn't shut up. They're both egotistical assholes so I guess they fit together. I should bye a gift for the upcoming wedding.
Soon enough my feet were in bandages and forbidden from touching the ground.
"Thankfully, it's not a deep second-degree burn, so it should heal within one to three weeks. I recommend using a thin layer of ointment, such as aloe vera, not too much so heat doesn't get trapped inside. It will also help with scarring. If you feel unbearable pain you can dip your feet in cool water for ten to fifteen minutes. When—"
I stopped listening at that point on. I knew what had to be done to get rid of it so I wasn't not worrying about that. What was bugging me was my job. I won't be able to make it Wednesday but I have to be there Friday to choreograph. It will probably heal a good amount until then. I hope.
He let me go eventually, and I was once again carried to the car by non other than Manbun, who seemed to be enjoying this the most, "Well aren't I your knight in shining armour?" He asked with a slight smirk as he looked down at me. I almost smacked it off.
"Not really. I could have gotten a wheel chair, and Joe can easily carry me. So I guess your armour isn't as shiny." I retorted.
"Well too bad Joe has to pay for your visit, and they'll probably charge extra to use a wheelchair so in conclusion I have the shiniest armour of them all."
As if on cue, Joe appeared from behind us, "Thank god you have insurance, you would be homeless and broke if you didn't." Oh right, I'm homeless. That's another problem.
"About that," Alexia said from next to me, "Where are we gonna live? That's the only place we had."
Manbun opened his mouth to speak but Joe beat him to it, "You guys can stay at mine. I'm living with grandma right now since I don't think she has got much left here, so I'm rarely at my house." He said and I looked up at him. His lips were pressed in a thin line and his brows were slightly furrowed.
"Nana Nicki is sick?" I asked him. I've met her a couple of times, and since day one she's told me to call her nana, so I complied. Last time I had seen her, which admittedly was a while ago, she looked just fine. I always liked her, since she didn't give two fucks about what people said and she cared deeply for those close to her. She was a strong woman and I always had respect for her. Joe cared for her like he would for a parent, since she basically raised him. His parents died young, his grandma was all he had. I know he'll feel bad if nana passes.
"I mean she's old so she complains about pain in random places which is expected, but it's not like she's ill. She's going to be ninety eight this year and she keeps saying she feels as if it's her last year. I don't want to take any chances so I'll live with her for however long she's got left." He replied. I didn't know how to feel about it. I mostly felt bad for Joe, yet I also felt bad for nana herself. Then again, she had lived a long life.
