Part1: Unforgettable
I wake up to the sound of raindrops hitting my apartment window. That night I thought sleeplessly about what happened. I try to recapture every moment:
"Omma, Appa, this is Bianca." I introduced my girlfriend to my parents," Bianca, these are my parents." she smiles and bows to them. "Why do you bring this ...this..n**** in our house? this black girl will not be accepted in our family." my mother scolded me. I looked over my shoulder to see that Bianca was turning her head away, stunned, but before I could comfort her, my father stopped me. "If you chase her, you will degrade yourself and our family!" he shouted, but before I could answer, Bianca ran out of the door" Bianca, wait! "I ran all the way to the secret fountain I showed her long before she met my parents," Please, do not leave. I don't care what they think of us." I pleaded, she replied sadly," Stop! I'm tired of people judging us." she was crying, but also talked in a way that made her seem furious. "Just go, get married to that girl Ji Woo, It'll make your parents happy to see you and her together rather than me" she starts to cry, but quickly covers it up," You know what? I'll just leave." she turns away and runs down the path, into the night mist of New Years.
Little did I know I would probably never see her again.
Chapter 1: Until we meet again
I wake up dazed, I check my phone to see what time it is.9:30 my phone buzzes:
One new message:
Bianca: Hello? Are you awake?
Jake (me): Yes I just woke up. Can we talk about the incident?
I start to get up and get dressed. My phone buzzes again.
Bianca: I am waiting at our special place. Meet me there at 10, I want to see you again before I go.
Go? Where is she going? I try to brush those thoughts away and get dressed, I only have 15 minutes.
I met her at the secret waterfall, where we met each other in high school, but also where we disperse, thinking we can never see each other again:
I see Bianca, she is on a bench, hiding behind a bush. This is it I think, I am going to tell her how much I love her. I take a deep breath and start to walk over. Bianca and I dated for 2 years, and I wanted to propose to her, but my parents wanted me to marry my friend I knew since kindergarten, Ji-Woo. I am going to do it now I start to approach her, and she sees me. "Hey" she makes a sad smile as she stands up and grasps my hand "We should break up. I'm moving to Europe, and I'm never returning," she says, giving me one last hug, "I love you, but it's over" she starts to cry again before running off to the secret path. I started to run after her," Wait!" I scream as she turns around and looks at me . "what?" she mutters before I pull her into a hug and embrace her. "I love you.." she smiles, and sniffles, before running off again. Little did I know Ji-Woo was behind me. I jumped, startled to see her looking at me, slightly cocking her head. "You really love her huh?" she asks, probably suspecting me to say something extra, or dramatic about how we first met, but she smiles, "You shouldn't feel bad. She was the one who left you. She's the fool". She tries to hold my hand, but I yanked it away." She is not a fool! she is embarrassed and upset that she has to be discriminated against just for loving, but why do you care?" I shake my head waving her off,' What you and my family don't understand is that love is not arranged so you can please people, it's how you love and support your significant other, regardless of race and religion." I scoffed before walking away," Thanks for coming anyway."
I start running toward the path when suddenly my parents' car pulls around the corner.
