After two years of sitting alone in the rail yard watching trains come and go before the yard master approached Christie to ask her a question.
"Excuse me 4001? I don't want to ask any more of you but our shunter crashed yesterday. I-" he started before she cut him off and replied: "What you're asking is if I would like to be your shunting locomotive. Right?" She said tiredly
"Well. . . Yes. We need your help." He sighed.
At this she laughed. "After two years you finally need me. Yes I'll help. Get me coal and water and I'll do what you need me sir"
"Alright. Thank you 4001." The yard master said relieved. "I'll get you moved to the coal mine to load your tender"
After five years of working in the yard she was placed in a shed and the yard was shut down, leaving her alone once more.
