"Nezuko!" a kind woman voice called to her eldest daughter. "Your face is all covered in soot! Come here!" she urged. The girl did as she was told and obediently stood still as her mother dabbed at her face with a cloth. "You know, you really don't have to go. It's snowing and dangerous"

"I want to have a great New Years where everyone can eat as much as they want. I'll sell as much charcoal as I can" Nezuko insisted.

"Hm... how kind" Kie smiled gently at the thought of her eldest daughter being so selfless.

"Nezuko!" a little boy yelled. "Are you going to town today?"

"I wanna come with you!" her little sister, Hanako, whined.

"No. You cant walk as fast as Nezuko" Kie dismissed the idea.

"But-"

"I said no. Nezuko can't take the cart today, meaning she can't pull you once you get tired" their mother continued

"Takeo" Nezuko spoke up and looked at the second eldest son who was in the background. "Do Tanjiro a favour and cut as much wood as you can, yeah?"

An annoyed huff left his lips. "Yeah, okay..."

Nezuko grinned and started making her way down the mountain, careful not to drop the load of charcoal on her back.

"Hurry back! Remember that your brother Y/n is coming home today!" Kie reminded. The girl nodded as a sign that she understood and continued walking, bumping into her brother, Tanjiro, on the way there.

"Tanjiro!"

"Hey, Nezuko!" he greeted with a wide smile. "I had to put Rokuda down to sleep or else he'd throw a fit!" he motioned towards little Rokuda who was resting on his back. Nezuko reached out a hand and played with his greasy hair.

"I'm sure he's just lonely" Nezuko chuckled. "After dad died everyone kind of looks up to you" she chuckled. "Anyway, I have to get going. I wouldn't want to be late for Y/n's arrival!"  and with that, she jogged down the mountain. The thought of her family and how happy she was at that moment whizzed through her head. Sure, they weren't rich or anything, but they had each other and that was all that they ever really needed. A gentle voice pulled her from her thoughts.

"Nezuko-chaaaan~!" a familiar boys voice cooed.

"Oi, stop it with the stupid nickname!" Nezuko scolded.

"I would love to, but it's too funny!" the boy snickered. The kid before her was her twin brother. It appeared that he came home early. His messy black hair was as unattended as ever. Looks like Nezuko was going to have to take care of it again. His dark and stormy purple-pink eyes faded to a e/c colour as they sometimes did when exposed to a lot of light. He had a uniform on with a black haori with gold along the hems and the alchemical sign for gold on the back, as well as 'aurum' written under it. A katana and black and gold crow mask decorated his waist and hair.

"I see you're back from the army for New Years, hm?" Nezuko hummed and nodded towards the sword.

"I won't even bother correcting you this time" Y/n sighed in annoyance. "But yeah, mom informed you, right?"

"Mhm" Nezuko nodded.

"I bet you're glad I'm home, hey?" Y/n asked with a cocky smirk. "After all, I AM the leader of the family"

"You're not the leader, your voice still cracks" Nezuko scoffed and flicked his forehead, making him scream in pain. "I have to get going though, I wouldn't want to come home late. And you too, you get home so they don't have to wait. Go on. Shoo"
