The humidity felt relieving. The girls hadn't been in such a climate for 5 years. They were alone together for the first time in 5 years. No teachers or parents to boss them around could tell them not to make out on the beach, get drunk or stay up all night.
"Hey, there's a shack over there selling cocktails" one of the girls pointed out
"Don't you want to get your bikini's on first?" another girl said
"No way, I was in that plane for way to long, I need me some alcohol"Lizzie did not wish to come on this journey. She always hated summer, the humidity, the loudness of it all, the music with too much bass. She'd rather be at home sipping a hot cup of coffee in front of the fireplace as snow trickled through the air outside her window. But no, she was here in the scorching sun of Ibiza. She decided to make the most of it and try and get some joy by going roller-skating on the headland.
"Hey, don't forget to take me with you!"
Lizzie jumped. That was unexpected.
"Oh, sorry mate" the girl behind her continued
That was Claire, her closest friend since middle school. Claire was like the direct opposite of her in every way. She was bubbly, eccentric, and overly extroverted. She loved to always have her hair in space buns and to wear her favourite black and neon green shirt. She had an odd obsession with space and astrology. But they still were best friends despite their differences.
Lizzie sighed then giggled "Yeah, you scared the living Jesus out of me"
Claire giggled too, "So, where are we going again"
"Oh, I was thinking we could go roller skating on the headland, maybe get a drink, who knows-"
"After that can we go bowling?" Claire jumped in
"What is this, the 60s? But still, sounds like fun, let's do it" If she was going to enjoy this summer, she was going to do it with Claire."Oh, what are we standing here for, let's go unpack in our hotel room" Claire said as she grabbed Lizzie's arm
Lizzie felt oddly about Claire. She felt the constant need to be around her but also felt embarrassed around her. She believed it was because she was losing interest, though it was quite the opposite. She didn't want to lose interest in her, so she stayed with her as much as possible.
Something inside her sparked when she grabbed her arm, something she only felt with her.
She was just happy to spend the summer with her closest friend
