"Hey, are you alright?" Mystery guy asked.
"Why do you care?" I said
"You seem like you need some help" He responded.
"No, I don't need anyones help" I said.
I tried to walk away but slowly fell down to the ground in pain. He slowly took one of my arms and placed them around his neck as we started walking towards the nurses office.
"My name's Aiden if you were wondering" He said in a playful tone.
"Well I wasn't" I responded.
"Aren't you going to tell me your name?" He asked
"No." I said.
We eventually made it to the nurses office where he sat me down and began to walk off but before he had gone he turned around.
"See you around" He said.
"Yeah, I guess so." I responded.
I looked at my knee and then back at the doorway to where he was standing. Maybe I should've given him my name, it would've been an opportunity to be friends with someone. No, no, nobody is friends with me unless they want something or they want to make fun of me, and getting attached to me is a bad idea, I won't be here for long anyways. I shook the thought out of my head as I looked down at my knee, from what I could gather the cut was deep but not deep enough for stitches, I just need some bandages. I touched the blood and examined it on my finger, it was as red as a ruby.
*flashback*
It was a hot summer day about 8 years ago when I was playing around with a friend. We were in the sand pushing each other around and just laughing. We spent most of that day eating ice cream and laying in the sand doubled over laughing. It was the best of day of my life until Sammy said...
"Hey Maggie let's go play on top of the rocks!"
"Okay let's do it" I responded.
We ran up to the hill leading to the rocks slowly but then started picking up the pace. We were only about 7 years old and we thought of ourselves as fearless adventurers.
"Sammy slow down we're gonna fall" I yelled against the noise of crashing waves.
Even though I was a 7 year old with my two front teeth missing and my hair in pigtails I think I knew when danger was near.
"It's going to be fine" Sammy yelled back.
Sammy smiled and started dancing around once we reached the top of the hill. My parents had been at home that day and said that I was old enough to play at the beach... they were wrong. Sammy started singing and rolling around laughing. I looked over the edge in fear but surely began to join in on the laughing with Sammy.
"I have an idea" Sammy said
"What?" I replied
"Let's jump!" He said excitedly
"Jump?" I asked warily.
I thought he was insane, out of his mind to even consider jumping, we were too high up. I knew that there was a chance that both of us would be pushed away by the current or even hit our head on the rocks.
"Oh c'mon Maggie, I'll go first just to show you how easy it is, just give me a little push." He responded.
"Okay" I said quietly.
"1...2..3...GO!" He yelled.
I pushed him with my hands and saw his body lunge forwards. I ran to the edge to see what had happened to him and that's when I saw it. At first he was yelling in happiness but towards the end his head caught the edge of the rock and his body fell limp into the water. I could see the red stain grow gradually consuming the water around his body as I ran backwards in shock. I looked down at my hands to see them shaking violently as tears clouded my eyes.
"SAMMY!!" I yelled.
I began to back up in shock and began to run home crying, I never told my parents, I couldn't. What would I tell them? That I killed my best friend?
