Chapters PROLOUGUE- 3

PROLOGUE

I am in a room of flame and smoke, I search around the room for an exit, but none are to be seen. As I walk through the flames, a face appears across the room .

“Hello? Are you alright?” I yell but the person doesn’t answer me. I make my way across the room, flames searing into my flesh, to the corner the person stood. Then I notice something, the person is a child, a young boy. I bend down to study his face. Terror strikes him when he sees me.

“He’s everywhere, get out while you can!” He yells as his eyes dart back and forth from my face to the wall behind me. I slowly turn around to see why he is so scared, then I see it; a tall demonic figure stretching over us.

“You can never leave!” he yells sternly, and he laughs as he eyes us as if he is planning a relishable death. The boy appears in front of me and laughs along with the demon. “Hello Alice, welcome to your eternal flame”

                       

                       Chapter One

I walk through the front door of the old beat up high school. As I walk to my class, I run into someone, Spence.

“ Watch out Ms.Clumsy.” he says jokingly. I smile and walk with him until I reach my locker. I pull out all my utensils for spanish class and put the lock back on. I walk in right as the bell rings. Mr. Ablo, my spanish teacher, glares at me.

“Ms. Reyes, you’re late.” he says

“No i’m not, I stepped foot in the classroom right as the bell rang.” I say.

“Do we need to go over this again Reyes? You must be in your seat by 8:02 or else you're late.” He glares at me and I glare back, harder. I sit in my seat, next to Jace, my best friend.

“Wow, you almost blew it Al.” he says.

“Yeah, I know.” I say, smiling.

Across the gym,  I watch bodies straining from the weights, skin gleaming with sweat as it rolled down their faces and seeped into their clothing. Then right as I am putting headphones in my ears a girl walks in. She is tall and has long tendrils of black hair and bright green eyes, emerald almost. I watch as she interrupts the coach yelling at the guys to do more push ups. They talk and coach points up to something in the bleachers.

When the girl starts walking in my direction I realize Coach pointed at me. I stand up and meet her halfway from where I was sitting. “Alice Reyes?” she says. I nod,

“Hey Im Alexa Jackson, Im new and your the school president and also…” she trails off and her view shifts to the doors. I follow her view and  I find that she is staring at my best friend, Spencer (I’m a senior in highschool and I’ve known him since 2nd grade, so, we’re close.)

“Who’s that?” she asks, smiling. Spencer walks over and puts his arm around me, Alexa’s smile quickly faded. “Oh.” she sighed.

“Who’s this” Spencer asks, looking at Alexa.

“I’m Alexa,” she answers.

“Well, Alexa, would you possibly be able to go to the movies Friday?” he asks “But isn’t Alice your…” she trails off

“Oh, my girlfirend? No, Ive just known her for 13 years.” he replies, finishing her sentence. Girlfriend sticks in my mind, I’ve always loved Spencer, Just in a brotherly kind of way, but now a new meaning of it flutters in my stomach. But no, I have Jake to care for, I cannot have any distractions from the guy I’ve dated for 3 years.

    I’m sitting at a table that contains 9 people; Mickey and Jace, Sophie and Kai, Spence and Alexa,whom I met in the gym earlier,Lilac and me and Jake.

“Then Alice totally put Mr. Ablo in his place.” Jace says with a huge and cheesy grin. Jake puts his arm around me and whispers in my ear

“Again?” I laugh and nod, he smiles.

A tall man wearing a white suit walks over to us “Your order?” he asks, clearly annoyed by the fact that 9 teenagers are in his cafe.

“Uh, two caramel macchiatos for Alice and I.” Jake says. “Two strawberry spectacular smoothies for Sophie and I” Kai says  “Two iced coffees for me and Mickey” Jace says eagerly.

“Ehem, I need something” Lilac, Mickeys younger sister says. “Fine.” Mickey sighs. “One oreo blast ice cream sundae for the little one” Mickey says. “I’ll take a burger” Spence says. “I’ll have a Dr.Pepper” Alexa reported sweetly. The waiter rolled his eyes “I’ll be right back.” he says and disappears.

Chapter Two

    I lay on my stomach on my bed, Spence laying next to me. “So? How was your date with Alexa?” I ask, fiddling with a rubber band. “She’s nice and all, but…” he trails off. “Oh” I say, knowing exactly what he means. I suddenly hear the faint pitter-patter running feet. My door flies open and a little figure jumps on my bed, sitting on top of Spence. “Zack! Get out of my room!” Zack, my annoying little brother, grabs handfuls on Spence’s hair in his hands. “Play monster with me!” He shouts repetitively. Spencer stands up, shaking off Zack, then turns around. “I’ve worked up quite an appetite…. for YOU!” He says, jerking his head towards Zack. Zack squeals as Spencer pulls on his shirt, revealing Zacks chubby belly. Spencer keeps making strange noises by blowing on Zack’s stomach. I smile “Okay Zack, I think the monster needs some rest, okay?” Zack and Spence whine in unison, it’s obvious they’re close. “Spence..” I say. “Okay, hey buddy, go out in the living room, I’ll be there later, k? We have all day tomorrow to play. Im staying the night.” Spence says childishly. Zack runs out of the room laughing. “Since when are you staying the night?” I ask. “Since right now.” He replies, smiling.
