Shayna's eye's glistened as she stood at the threshold. "I think I'm ready."
Liddy swallowed, and it was an effort. "I'm sorry, Shayna."
She smiled sweetly. "Don't be," she said, and nodded.
Liddy closed the door.
"Bloody shame," Ray said. His breathing was labored, and he hadn't gotten off the chair to see Shayna out. One of his eyes had gone bright red, and the pupil was dilated.
Liddy came back to the table. "You don't look good, man."
"I'm right," Ray said. He took another deep, halting breath. "C'mon then. Let's finish this."
