"Light thinks it travels faster than anything but it is wrong. No matter how fast light travels, it finds the darkness has always got there first, and is waiting for it."

SICILY, ITALY
He was angry.
They knew that much.
The ever-consuming darkness inside his heart grew, pain, pain he knew all to well that was to be released as the blinding anger, tearing pictures, breaking vases, scattering his desk.
That was what he did, he did it until his hands were bleeding, tiny pieces of glass sticking out of his palm, he did it until the office he had calmly sat in an hour ago was no longer recognisable.
The men that had left the room due to fear of being throttled shook like leaves except a select few, it was a usual scene, but scary nonetheless. They knew their boss could switch up within the bat of an eye so they never got too comfortable.
The reasons behind his anger were not much, a shipment of drugs got lost and one got hijacked, the Russians, those bloody nuisances had blown up two of their warehouses containing their weapons and the last one, the trigger, his father dearest threatened to give his title, the title that rightfully belonged to him as Don of the Italian Mafia to his asshead of a cousin if he didn't find a wife in a month.
Lucien always had anger in his heart, it was always something he carried, but when there was a trigger there wasn't much others could do except watch the destruction. Whether he raced, broke things or fought he usually managed to find a way to calm down.
He and his father loved each other like any other father and son, so at this point he didn't know why his father would drop such a thing on him nevertheless only give him 1 month.

Few hours later, he was calm.
Ringing up his step-mother, he asked her to come meet him. Normally most people hate their stepmothers but that wasn't the case here, he loved his step-mother as if she was the one who gave birth to him, and the amount of people Lucien loved was a single-digit number less than 5, only a select few. His step-mother had been the only mother-figure in his life and he was thankful for her.
His step-mother, Guiliana, was a force to reckon with, whom Lucien and his father Luciano both feared, she was a spicy Spanish-Italian woman who caught the eyes of men in every room she walked into, Both of the men in her life were ever so protective of her and she loved Lucien like her own.
In less than 20 minutes, her driver pulled into his large driveway leading up to the large mansion he resided in.
"Come se avessi bisogno di insegnarti le buone maniere! I've told you to stop hanging up on me!" His mother said peeved narrowing her outlined eyes at him when she entered his now cleaned study. {As if i need to teach you manners!}
"mi dispiace mamma, but I needed to talk to you urgently and I knew you'd ask questions!" He replied for fear the Latina would drag him out by the ear {I'm sorry mama}
Sitting down on the couch she had picked out when he first got the house her eyes widened knowingly "I see your father finally told you about the marriage."
"Mother! You knew? And you didn't tell me!" He raged, upset that his mother kept anything from him.
"Calm down my child, he wasn't sure, he didn't want to do it but he knew that it was the only way to settle down for you and it was the wisest choice we had, we'd hoped you'd understand." His mother tried to reason with him.
He didn't understand, but he huffed and puffed not wanting to argue with his mother. Still peeved at the situation he invited his mother to have dinner with him before she left.
Guiliana made paella and they ate chatting and discussing plans and what not, Guiliana even mentioned she knew of a girl and He agreed instantly, he didn't care for who the girl was, as long as she kept to her room and didn't disturb him they'd be fine.
Working and signing documents late into the night, before retiring to bed, Lucien ordered a diamond ring and sent it with a messenger to give the girl by the name Daisy Clementine, the girl that his mother had mentioned and to ask her for her hand in marriage as he didn't care to do it by himself.
