Tsukishima seemed more talkative during practice, trying to make sure I knew I was the only one that could call him Tsuki.
"Why can't Aimi? She is your girlfriend after all, " I questioned him as we took a break.
"Because I'm only ok with you saying that, " he answered after he took a long sip of his career bottle, "Plus, I don't really know her, we only did some projects together and we fell for each other."
His response wasn't fitting right with me. Tsuki never fell for someone he knows little of. He did come out as demiromantic to me when we were in middle school. The last crush he had that he told me about was one of his closest friends. We had known him for almost 3 years when Tsuki told me about his crush.
"Ok, sorry for asking,", I replied, standing up to do some quick stretches.
" Don't worry about it, Yama, " he answered, standing up next to.me with a small smile. The practice had just ended and I was waiting by the gym doors For Tsuki.
"Aren't you dating that tall got head with glasses in the volleyball club?" A deep male voice rang out from the side of the gym.
"Yeah but I don't actually like him, " a female sounding voice answered.
The voice sounded a lot like Aimi's voice. Was it her? I walked over the side of the gym only to see Aimi kissing a boy from class 3. I quickly turned away to not get caught. Did Tsuki know about this? Why were they dating if they hated each other?"Yama?" Tsuki yelled out, looking for me.
"Sorry, Tsuki! I thought someone was calling for me, sorry," I responded as I walked back to him.
He nodded in response as we both started walking towards our houses.
"Any new songs, Tsuki?" I asked a bit sheepishly.
He nodded and gave me one of his earbuds, "I really liked " Trees" by McCafferty"
He played the song and we both listened in silence. Tsuki and I always had a bit of a tradition of when we walked home we would share songs and music artists. For most walks, we'd be in silence, occasionally talking about the song. The song had talked about being gay and used the f slur which caught me off guard.
"Why do you like the song? It talks about being hung and being gay, " I asked, as soon as the song ended.
"I like the beat and message," he responded, trying to not look at me.
It seemed like he was blushing, but why? Was he gay? But then why was he dating Aimi?
"Then why does it say the f slur?" I continued to question him.
"The lead singer is supposed to be pansexual or he just likes boys in some way. Plus, he didn't have the best family life so that's how he expresses it," he answered, still blushing.
Was this is his way of coming out?
"Tsuki, do you need to say something? You know I'm bisexual, right?" I said, interrogating him.
He stopped and looked up at me. The was blushing, I don't know whether it was from empressement or from him being flustered. What if I was wrong? What if he's just straight and is going to end up hating me.
"Fine, since you keep asking, im gay," he waited for a response like I was going to yell at him.
I wasn't expecting that answer. I thought he would be bisexual or pan, not gay.
"What about Aimi?" I asked him.
Tsuki looked like he had forgotten about her, "I meant I'm bi, just I really like boys more than girls."
I nodded and we began walking again.
"Bye Tsuki!" I said as our route split in two.
Tsuki just nodded in response as he put his headphones on. I walked into my house to fine it empty and dark. I sighed and took off my shoes, noticing that my mom's and dads shoes were missing. I walked to the kitchen and saw a note on the counter.
"Be home by 12! Food is in the fridge -Mom&Dad"They went out again.
I heated the food up and ate it in silence. The lack of noise made me uncomfortable, I was so used to having someone yell during practice or the teacher talking. I knew I had to start getting used them leaving me. They started leaving for the night ever since I was in my 2nd year of middle school. At first it was only 2-4 times a month but now it seemed like it was almost everyday, even the weekends. I cleaned up after I finished eating, and went to bed.
