Chapter 1

"C'mon mom don't cry" I tell my mom while patting her back in an attempt to comfort her.

"Nessa, Are you sure NYU was the best choice. Your so far from home."

"Yes mom. California is great but New York is my chance, this is where I need to be!"

"I know, I'm just worried about my baby girl" She chokes, her hand cups my cheek

"I'm gonna be fine, and Ashton and Lisa are here with me"

"Where is Lisa anyways" my mom looks over at Lisa's side of the room. Her bed is perfectly made and all her stuff was orginized.

"Oh her and her mom came yesterday because she had an early orientation"

"Oh, What's her major again"

"I forgot what it was called, but it's something with like science and chemicals and all that stuff" I wave my arms around like I'm swatting bees.

"See, Lisa has her head one straight, she's not out chasing silly dreams"

"Mom it's not some silly dream you said yourself I have potential"

"I'm your mom, that's what I'm supposed to do"

I feel myself getting the erge to yell at her and fight for my dream, but I decide against it because I know she's wrong.

"I have to go, I'm meeting up with Ashton" I quietly say as I collect my things and try to avoid eye contact.

"Okay I'll walk you out" she gestures me out the door and follows behind me. We walk down the hall and to the elevator. We walk out the front door of the dorms. I see Ashton leaning against the wall on his phone. He's wearing khaki, a white button up shirt, and black dressy shoes. He looks very studience and nice. When his eyes meet mine we exchange warm smiles and he puts his phone in his pocket then walks over to me me and my mom.

"Hey Baby" he gives me a hug and a kiss on the cheek before greeting my mother.

"Hello Mrs. Marie" He extends his hand and my mom extends hers.

"Hi Ashton" She gives him a warm smile and he returns one.

Ashton turns back to me "So you ready to go"

"Yea let's go"

My mom interrupts "Where are you guys going"

"Ashton's taking me out to lunch"

"Oh okay, well you guys have fun"

As Ashton and I turn to walk away, I feel my mom tug on my arm and pull me back.

"Vanessa, remember your here to study film and video production not to chase some silly dance dream. Now your brother is very successful in the movie industry, and you can be too in you stay focused on your studies" My mom releases my arm before turning and walking away.

"Woah what was that about" Ashton asked me with a concerned look on his face. "Oh it's nothing" I assure him.

"That didn't look like nothing"

"My mom doesn't think I have what it takes to be a dancer"

"Awe baby, I'm sure that's not the case. She just wants you to be successful that's all"

"Yea I guess" I roll my eyes and he puts his arm around me as we walk to this cafe on campus called Bobby's. I'm guessing the name has something to do with the school mascot being a Bob cat, but maybe not. Ashton opens the door and gestures me into the cafe. We sit down at a table by the window. The waiter comes and takes our order. Ashton orders a chicken sandwich and I order a salad. As we wait for our food to arrive Ashton talks about all the books he has to get for class. He wants to be a lawyer, which makes sense because he's super smart, is great with talking in public, and he sure knows how to argue. Our food arrives and we eat, pay, then leave.

Ashton walks me back to my dorm and kisses me goodbye for disappearing down the hallway. I open the door and Lisa is sitting on at her desk organizing her planner. We talk about her orientation, my discussion with my mom, and my lunch with Ashton. Lisa decided she was gonna go take her shower. When she left the room I unpacked the rest of my clothes which didn't take long considering I barely have any. Me and Lisa are going shopping tommrow. Lisa returns to the room and I go to the bathroom to take my shower. Its 11:30 pm so the bathroom is completely empty, which does bother me considering everyone in this hall shares the same bathroom, boys included. After my shower I go back to my room and Lisa is already sleeping. I climb into bed, turn off my light and fall asleep almost instantly.
