"GOT YA!!""Keira? You? What're you doing here? When did you come back?", I asked, quite surprised, to see my so called best friend Keira here, who was actually supposed to be in a different city right now.
"I never went", Keira exclaimed happily.
"What? And you are happy about it?", a very confused me asked her.
"Of course! Why would I not be?"
"What about your job there? You were desperately in need of one. Keira, you should not miss this", I told her worried about how she'll do without that job.
"No way am I going there. Why do I even have to?", She asked me as if I obviously knew the answer.
"Why not? Because you have to work." I asked getting mad now. Is she crazy herself, or making me one?
"That's why I'm here you dimwit."
"What do you.... wait.. WHAT?"
"Yes my dear," she started with her laughter "from now, we're working together", Keira said seeing the amazement on my face.
"But when? How? How did you do it?", I asked confused actually because it was close to impossible to get a job here. Our manager was quite a fierce and arrogant one and never hired a person easily. I was just a bit lucky after begging at his feet for a whole three weeks. Not that I wasn't capable for anything else, but this one seemed easy-going to me and I liked the atmosphere here. And moreover, I didn't have to travel a lot to get here.
"Why does it matter now that we work together, come on lets go", Keira exclaimed happily brushing my questions away.
"Huh.. Yeah.. I still don't get it though", I stated as we both headed to begin the day.
"Never mind."
After our shift was over, Keira and I went to the park nearby and sat on a bench to eat the ice-creams we bought.
We, not talking anything, made my mind drift back to last night. Did the cops find out anything? Will I be in trouble for not letting them know when I could have? Maybe, If I told them just then, they could have caught whoever was behind it? What will....
"AMELIA?", Keira screaming into my ears made me jump out of thoughts and also my seat.
"Why are you shouting Keira? My ears are pretty fine", I told her and then noticed half of my ice-cream has melted already.
"Oh really? I've been calling you for the hundredth time and you say yours ears are pretty fine hah!", Keira retorted back in her most annoying tone and that's when I realised I zoned out.
"Ooh!! Sorry, I didn't notice."
"In which world are you? What's wrong with you?" Keira asked me, a little worried.
I knew there is no chance of getting away without telling her and maybe, she could help me get this out of my head. So I narrated the whole incident that happened the previous night not missing a word.
Keira was surprised at the fact that such things were still happening and that too around us. She couldn't half believe that I kind of examined a dead body.
"Amelia, why the hell would you do that? What did you do with the gun? Do you know what's in the memory card? Why do you have to do such risky stuffs? This could be dangerous. You should let the cops know or you might get in trouble", Keira sounded really tensed and angry at me as she bombarded me with questions I have no answer for.
"But I already told the cops that I didn't know anything. Now if I go and tell, they might get suspicious about me", I said regretting even seeing the body.
"Oh now what will we do? Better throw away that memory card. Or give it to me, let's destroy it", Keira said hoping at least the only clue would be destroyed and nobody would suspect me.
"But I don't have it now. It's at home, I will do something with it once I get there", I ensured her.
"That's good then, and.."
We were distracted by Keira's phone ringing and she picked it up.
"Hello mom..... oh its okay... I'll manage till then... yeah Amelia is
here.... Ok bye""What is it?", I asked curious as my name was mentioned.
"Mom is not home. It will take a few hours for her to come back. I guess you don't mind me coming with you?", Keira asked me.
"Why would I mind?"
We got in the car and started heading towards my house. Keira was busy texting someone all along.
"What's wrong?", I asked taking a glance at her before keeping my gaze back on the road.
"Nothing much. Just an old friend wanting to catch up with me."
Once we reached there, I was surprised to find dad open the door for us. Shouldn't he be at work now?
"Hello uncle, I guess its been looooong since we met", Keira happily said exaggerating 'long'. I wonder why. It was only two weeks ago they saw each other.
"Hey there Keira! Yeah, but I guess now we could meet more often", David said moving aside to let us .
I watched them in amusement as to how fast they got along. They haven't seen much of each other. You see, I haven't known Keira for long, but she is really cool and sometimes, overprotective about me. But I like it how she keeps asking everything at the end of the day. She made me feel comfortable around her.
Giving dad a hug, we both went upstairs to my room.
" Amelia! Could you please get me a glass of water? I'm dying of thirst", Keira begged pretending to die.
"Stop being so stagy. I'll be right back", I laughed at her silliness and went down to make some juice. I saw a box of donuts, and grabbed it along and went upstairs with the tray.
I pushed the door with my leg as my hands were full, to see a great mess which wasn't there a few minutes ago.
"Oh my god Keira! Did you just meet a cyclone or what? What have you been doing?", I asked surprised about this mess which she never creates.
"Uh.. Well.. I was just...!", she started trailing off and that's when I realised it.
No way
