"Wh-what happened to us?", Klaus asked, suddenly waking up from the effect of the potion.
"Wait- where are we?", Violet asked, bedazzled by all the beautiful colors and shops. That were all around them in different shapes and sizes, old and new, and open and closed.
"You sleep here", Sunny said to her siblings. "You see now, it is same place!", more defined, their sister meant,'You fell asleep here, and we were in Diagon Alley the whole time. The potion made you see it all now."
"Oh, you are right Sunny!", Klaus then realised, after looking at every shop that had looked old and rusty now looked bright and new!
"Now that you're awake, lets go get your supplies!", Hagrid cheered as he pulled out a list from one of his coat pockets. "Ok, we need to go to Madam Malkin's Robes for all Occasions, for robes, Flourish and Blotts, for your books, Slug and Jigger's Apothecary, for ingredients, Quality Quidditch Supplies, to get brooms, Eyelop's Owl Emporium, for yer' owls, and we may be checkin' out Magical Menagerie if you don't want an owl. Oh! And Olivander's, for yer' wands! How could I forget to write 'em down!", Hagrid chuckled as he started walking down the streets. "Oh I hope no ones too busy.", Hagrid said as he looked around the almost empty streets.
"Ok, first stop- Flourish and Blotts.", Hagrid cheered as he entered the tall green door as the children were amazed at all the books. "Hello?", Hagrid called through the bookshop. The lights were on, but there was no one in sight.
"OW! You little-", Then came another scream from somewhere in the store. Then a man came out from one of the back rooms. "Oh! I wasn't expecting any school children! What do you need?", He smiled as he held his hand.
"What was that noise?", Klaus asked him.
"Oh! I'm so sorry- I must've scared you!", He laughed. "It's thoose Monster books of Monsters! I got a new shipment today."
"Ok?", Violet finished as her brother wander off to a shelf.
"Everything ever known about Howarts, The staff, and past students?", He read the cover of this red leather book then turned to Hagrid, "Hagrid, can we get this?"
"Sure! Dumbledoor gave me quite a load of knuts, sickles, and galleons for yer' stuff.", Hagrid said as he pulled out a medium sized sack from another of his coat pockets.
"Oh! Well that book isn't as popular as the other books on Dumbledoor and Hogwarts. That will be 10 sickles.", The man said, now sitting behind the counter.
"Well how much are two copies of the eight books they'll need?", Hagrid asked as he put a large pile of 16 books on the counter.
"Uuum... about 12 galleons, but that's only for one copy. I'd say 20 galleons, being the years' shopping is done for most students.", He told him as Hagrid gave him the galleons and a hair extra.
"What are galleons and sickles?", Klaus asked as soon as they left the book store. "In my parents library I learned a lot about money, about pesos, euros, even the rare dollars such as the Zanzibar banknote. But I have never heard of galleons or sickles. Neither have I about Hogwarts or anything like this."
"You are correct in one thing, kid.", Hagrid said as he continued to walk to Olivander's. "It is currency, and only wizards know it."
"Well, it's obviously some type of currency! But I wouldn't consider that making me right."
"Oh look! We are here! The beautiful, one and only Olivanders!", Hagrid cheered as they stood in front of the old store, with missing golden letters and the rest of the letters sagging at the corners.
"Ok? What are we getting here?", Violet asked politely.
"'Yer wands!", Hagrid said as he pushed open the door inside the shop. ""Mr. Olivander? It's 'ye good old friend Hagrid!"
"Hi Hagrid.", Mr. Olivander said as him and the children entered the door. "Who are these children?"
"This is Violet, Klaus, and this is Sunny Baudelaire.", Hagrid told him. "They are mu- new students to Hogwarts. Just a bit late. We need some wands."
"Mmm... yes. Violet, I'll help you first. If you don't mind waiting."
"No problem.", Klaus said.
Pulling Violet aside, Mr. Olivander reached up to a tall shelf. "Should we start with Unicorn hair, or Dragon heartstrings?"
"Uh... I have never gone wand shopping before, Mr. Olivander.", Violet told him.
"Mmm... then let's start with a Dragon heartstrings core." Olivander told her as he pulled down a long sack from one of the shelves that was labeled 'Olivanders Dragon Heartstrings; Fairly flexible.'
As he unwrapped the brown cloth around it, a neat black wand was revealed. "Try it, dear."
"What do I do with it?", Violet asked as she held it awkwardly in her hand.
"Flick it.", He said.
"Do what?"
"Flick it, give it a wave, a swirl! Try some magic.", He laughed.
Holding the wand in her hand, Violet twisted her wrist a little bit left, and then right. The room was awkwardly silent. Suddenly, the stairs against the shelves against the wall banged into the wall right beside her siblings and Hagrid. Dust was swept up from the floor as it had slid across the room.
"Dear, oh dear. Definitely not this wand.", Mr. Olivander said as he pulled the stairs over to reach another wand labeled Unicorn Hair; inflexible.", He unwrapped it as he sat the light wood wand in Violet's palm.
Cautiously, she waved it away from her family, and the lights shut off immediately. Almost in the dark, Violet handed him back the wand. "Better...", He said as he snatched his wand from his desk and turned the lights back on as he pulled another wand from the bottom shelves.
Sitting the brown wand in Violet's hand, Violet gave it a flick and her dress twirled around her legs as she let out a soft chuckle.
"That's the one for you Miss.", He said as he took the wand from her hand and placed it carefully inside a box label "Unicorn Hair; Very flexible"
Violet held the box as she walked to the chairs her siblings were sitting in. "Klaus, It's your turn now.".
Klaus stepped over to Mr. Olivander.
