When I was about four-years-old, my family moved to Little Horn, Wyoming. We moved for numerous reasons. One, my dad had a new job lined up there. Two, that house had 100 acres; enough land for me to get the horse that I always wanted. Man, I loved that place! Running in the field, not worried about weird people coming to take me (like we did in the city). I think my mom likes it out here because she can do her thing and not have to worry about me like she used to.
When I was two-years-old, my mom and I were in the front yard of our little house in Carefree, Arizona. My mom was planting flowers and I was sitting on the grass, playing with my doll. My mom looked away as a black van pulled up. A man jumped out and grabbed me. I was kicking, screaming, and crying; but by the time my mom looked around, the man drove off. She ran after the van for me, but it was too late, I was already gone.
My mom called the police. My uncle was on the police force and he tried to calm my mom down, but she was crying up a storm. The next day, an Amber Alert was put out for me and everyone kept searching for the van. It was spotted at a warehouse on the other side of town. My dad and the cops came flying through the door. My uncle ran up to the van and got me out. He hugged me in a tight bear hug before taking me home to my parents.
When I was sixteen-years-old, I was starting my second year of high school. I had an amazing best friend. Her and I did everything together from going to summer camps to riding horses together. That was the good old days, but something changed this year. She started treating me like I was a freak. She was dating this boy I had a crush on, but it pissed me off that she got him. He made her treat me like I was nothing and spread lies about me like I was a virgin or that I was pregnant from a one night stand. But the truth was that I never had sex in my life and she was making fun of me for that. When Samantha and Trevor started to date she became a massive bitch that really hurt me because I have been there for her since preschool and I was her best friend through 8th grade and I was there when she got her first period and needed a tampon I don't think that was right, so after my last class one day in September, I went home and cried. My mom asked me, "What's wrong?"
"Samantha is spreading rumors about me at school."
"Don't listen to her. She is just missing out on an amazing friend right now."
That same night, my best friend called. I could tell she had been crying by the way she responded to my greeting.
"Hannah, I'm sorry." she choked out between tears.
"Trevor is an asshole and I'm sorry, but I can't do anything about it." I slammed the phone down.
Ever since that happened, we stopped talking to each other.
The last day of high school was on my eighteenth birthday. I couldn't believe that my high school career had come to a close! When I got home from my last class of the year, I pulled up to my house and there was a red Ford truck in my driveway. I parked my car and went into the house. I saw a note from my parents saying, 'We are out and will be back soon. That truck in the driveway is the guy that is cutting our grass for us. Love you sweetie!' I rolled my eyes and went upstairs to change into my bathing suit, which was my fav. It was a camo bikini with orange strings to tie it on. I grabbed my towel and headed out to the pool.
I looked out in the field and I saw a tall, shirtless, dark haired man wearing a cowboy hat and exposing his six pack. I felt something tingling inside me, telling me that he was the one. He must have felt my stare because he turned and smiled at me before returning to his work. I dove into the pool did a few laps and came out to dry off. I put my sunglasses on and just watched him. Next thing I knew, I fell asleep in the chair.
