Statistics say

New case, and a new lie

The next day I got to work and saw everyone already in the conference room. I sat down in my seat and looked at the file. "A boy was kidnapped yesterday while in the park with his older sister." J.J starts. I sneak a glance at Spencer, only to seeing him looking at me. I smile and then look back to J.J. "The unsub left a note saying the boy was unhappy and that he shouldn't be with such a uncaring family." She continued. "Maybe the unsub sees the boy as himself and he doesn't want the child to be unhappy so he takes him from the family." I say drinking my coffee.

"That's seems like the most likely thing considering the note." Spencer says smiling at me. "This unsub also took another boy, and he was never found." J.J says. We all nod and leave the conference room. "Derek, can I ride with you to pick up my stuff?" I ask him. "Yeah anything little one." He says laughing. "I am not short!" I say, and in fact I am not. But he thinks it is funny to see me get upset over it.

We walk out to Hus car and get in. "So what did you do on your unexpected day off?" He asks. I look down at my hands and smile. "Um, just read and got some new books." I say. "Well, thanks for that coffee I really needed it." He says. "God knows you did, you looked horrible." I say. "Pfft whatever." He say pulling up to his house. "Be right back." he says getting out of the car.

I feel my phone vibrate and I look at it. It was from Spencer, it is kinda weird I have always had his number but I never used it..... It read~ Hey! Would you like to go out with me after this case? I smile and reply yes as Derek gets in the car. We drive to my house next, I grab my bag and fill it then get back in the car.

We get to the airstrip and get on the jet. I sit down across from Spencer and beside Prentiss. "Hey, is your hand feeling better?" She asks. "Yeah it is actually, see almost healed." I say holding my hand out to her. "What happened?" Spencer asks staring at my hand. "I fell out of my car." I say not failing to remember the lie I told Prentiss. He nods but I know he knows he isn't falling for my lie

"Hey, Basia can you come here?" Derek asks from the couch. I nod and sit down next to him. "Yes?" I ask. "It isnt good to lie to profilers...." He says. "It isnt a lie, it is a simple faking of the truth to keep my emotions out of the social spotlight." I say. "He gives me the sure look and I stay sitting beside him. "I believe you are now trying to avoid Reid." He says looking over at Spencer.

"No... Why would I do that?" I ask wanting to kick him. "Because you like him, and you lied to him.... And you and I both know he isn't dumb enough to believe that you are stupid enough to fall out of a car." He says with a smirk."whatever I just don't wanna get up.." I say. "I bet considering the fact you should be kinda sore from falling out of a car." He says. I push his shoulder, and get up going back to my seat. "Basia, do you wanna come get drinks with us after the case?" J.J says pointing to her and Prentiss.

"Su- No I am sorry I can't." I say changing my answer mid-sentence because of the fact I am going out with Spencer. "Oh, why not?" J.J asks. "Umm, Books! Yeah lots of Books to finish reading." I say in a very unconvincing way. "But can't you just speed read them and then go out with us?" Prentiss asks. Damn I am digging a hole of lies here. "Well, I could but I don't like to rush things." I say my voice shaking. These are the most lies I have told in a three day period.

"Well, maybe some other time." Prentiss says eyeing me. I know she can see through this horrible lie. I look over at Spencer and he gives me a look saying he is sorry. I shake my head smiling slightly. "Basia, Reid, and Prentiss go to the park where the boy was taken, Derek and Rossi go to the M.E., And J.J come with me to talk to the family." Hotch says. Soon we land and we all head our separate ways.
