Avoid the Popular Guy

2 : Detention

Anyone who knows me knows that I'm NOT a morning person. Yesterday night, I stayed up until 3 to binge watch some show that Christine recommended to me. Honestly, it wasn't so good, but I still stayed up watching it because I wasn't sleepy and I had nothing else to do.

"AAAHHHHHH!!! Markkkkk! You are so dead." I yelled as my brother ran out of my room and down the stairs.

"Look at the time sis! I won't need a ride today. Peter's here. Okay byee." Mark said as the front door opened and closed. Peter is Mark's best friend and the prankster of our school.

I looked at the time and OH. MY. GOD. 8:20 WHAT!!!

School starts in 20 minutes and I am usually in the car right now. I quickly get off the bed and run to my bathroom. Coming out of the bathroom in record time, I decide on wearing a maroon cropped hoodie with blue denim ripped jeans and vans. I didn't bother showering today so I'll probably take a bath after school. I take an apple as I make my way out the front door and scream a quick goodbye to mom. I sit in the car and drive off hurriedly.

I reach school at 8:47 so I don't waste my time going to the locker as I make my way to my first class, Math. I am one of the few students who actually like Math, but for some reason the teacher hates me.

"May I know your reason on being late, Ms Morrison?" Ms Sheehan, our Math teacher asks me

"I woke up late." I say as I look down from embarrassment.

"Lunch detention"

"Fuckk" I swear as I sit down on my seat.

"Ms Morrison, you will be having an after school detention today because of being late and swearing."

I glare at the teacher's back when someone else enters the classroom. Yup. You guessed it right. It's Jason, Ethan and Nate as usual.

"After school detention to all three of you."

Ha! At least the teacher hates them more than me. I start solving the sums and soon the bell rings.

During lunch Christine and Ravi were sitting down at our usual table, arguing about who is better at singing. Let me tell you this. Christine is horrible at singing. Even I can sing a lot better than her, and I don't have a singer's voice. I don't even know why Ravi sits with us. He is quite popular because he gets awesome grades and he is in the basketball team. Christine came to this school 2 years ago because her mom had to move in with her new husband (Christine's stepdad). Nora the queen bitch asked her if she wanted to join the cheer-leading team but I told her off. That's actually how me and Chrissi became friends and how Nora started hating me. She knew Ravi because he was her cousin's ex boyfriend and that's how Ravi knows me.

The bell rang signalling the end of last lesson. I quickly went to my locker.

"Hey Mark!" I called out as he went past my locker. He was with his all of Year 10 and 11's football team. Did I tell you that he plays football? Well, now you know.

"What's up sis?" 

"I have detention right now. So, can you ask someone for a ride or go by the bus?"

"Sure thing. But, hey. You have detention?" He said with mischief written all over his face.

"Fuck Mark. DO NOT tell Mom okay? Tell her I'm in the library or something. Please?"

"What do I get in return?" He asked

"Arghh I'll get you KFC on the way."

"Hmm sounds good. Okay bye." He said whilst catching up with the guys.

I entered the detention room and saw the teacher on the computer. She looked at me and asked, " Name and the reason why you're here."

"Julia Morrison. I was late to school and swearing in front of the teacher." I replied

"Have a seat dear." She said giving me a small smile.

I took a window seat in the back of my room and was thinking about what to do when someone cleared their throat next to me. I literally jumped out of my seat when I saw the one and only Jason laughing next to me. His friends Ethan and Nate were sitting front of me laughing as well.

"Shut up! What do you want Jason?" I asked him

"I want you, JJ" He smirked

"First of all, stop calling me JJ. And secondly, don't talk to me."

"Aww JJ. Why can't I talk to you?"

I simply ignored him and continued watching the sky outside.

"Are you ignoring me?" I still didn't answer him.

"Hey Julia" Ethan said as he turned around in his seat.

"Hi" I waved giving him a small smile.

"So... How do you know this dude sitting next to you again?" He said, pointing in Jason's direction.

"His mom is best friend's with my mom." I said calmly

"Hey, you were my best friend! Don't forget that!" Jason interrupted our conversation.

"Really dude?" Ethan asked Jason. Jason gave him a wide nod.

I was still sitting there listening to their conversation but it was painful to think why he broke our friendship off.

"Hey, I'm Nate" Nate said

"Julia" I shook his hand.

Ethan suddenly turned to me, "Why are you guys not friends anymore?"

My face suddenly dropped at his question. Ethan was definitely the talker of their group.

"Jason found new friends and left me." I said nonchalantly while I was hurting from the inside. I averted my gaze to the window so that they got the hint that I didn't want to talk to them anymore. From my peripheral vision, I saw Jason and he was looking down, fiddling with his hands while his bit his lip. I knew this expression. He was nervous and guilty but I wasn't going to forgive him for what he did. He left me with no friends and didn't care about me.

The teacher told us that we could go so I quickly took my bag and ran out of the class and the building. I sat in the car as a single tear escaped my eyes. I hurried out of the parking out, took some food from KFC and reached home. Mark opened the door for me and sat on the kitchen stool and I sat besides him.

"So Jules, why did you get detention. I mean, you never get detention."

That was true. The last time I got detention was when I lost my tie in Year 10. That was 2 years ago. 

So I told him why I got detention as he ate his KFC. Then we played Fifa in his room on his xbox. We ate dinner with our Mom and I did my homework afterwards. Lastly, I watched a movie as it was the weekend tomorrow and I wen to sleep.
