Feelings

For the next few days, I couldn't stop thinking about my friend. Then I realized that I have been doing this for a long time. Actually, I didn't see anything strange or bad about it. We grew up together so we got really close. Over the years, I wondered if we weren't getting too close. Now that I was lying almost paralyzed by the injuries, I had time to think about it a bit. I laughed softly as I remembered when we were little children Inojin said he would marry me. He quickly added that he had thought a long time between Chocho and me, but decided that I was the better choice. I had nothing to say, I just agreed. I didn't know why our parents were laughing at us.

Now I can see how stupid we were. Well, we were kids. Little did we know how it worked. Now we are almost adults. Just at the mere thought that we will soon become the heads of our clans, I feel like going back to my childhood so that I can sleep all day, not worry about anything.

As soon as my wounds healed enough for me to move freely, I met my friends at the restaurant. I was surprised how pleased I was to see them. After all, several of them visited me.

"It's good to see you in one piece," Boruto joked. "You look so much better."

"Maybe because it doesn't hurt me so damn."

"May be." He laughed out loud. "When I visited you, you looked like a dead body."

"He doesn't look much better," Inojin commented, taking a bite of the sandwich.

"Thanks," I snorted.

I missed hanging out in a larger group. I was amused by Boruto and Sarada's arguing, Denki's new plans for amazing machines, Iwabee's stories, or Inojin yelling at Chocho. I was laughing so much my ribs hurt and they haven't healed yet. This worried Inojin, who additionally scolded me for it. He relieved my pain by using medical ninjutsu.

"I almost forgot to congratulate you on your promotion to Chuunin." I smiled and he frowned. I didn't know what I said wrong. I could only guess when he was glaring at me.

"I didn't become a Chuunin at all. I don't know what you mean," he disagreed and turned his head. I was really confused.

"Have you been promoted to Chuunin? Congratulations!" Uzumaki exclaimed.

Inojin sighed and rested his forehead on the table. "Can we go to your place, Shikadai?"

"Sure," I stammered out. I was still surprised by his reaction. I didn't know it was a secret. After all, I found out about it from my father.

We sat with our friends for a while, and finally they all went home. Iwabee kept questioning Inojin, who was definitely fed up with it. I still didn't know why he wouldn't tell anyone. On the way to my house, I decided to ask him.

"Was that some kind of secret?" I looked at him, but he looked straight ahead, and a silence answered me. "Can you hear me? Why are you avoiding the answer?"

"I'm not avoiding answering. I'm thinking what to say."

"Is it really that hard?" I looked at him out of the corner of my eye.

"Yes."

I sighed and stared at the sky. "You didn't even tell me anything. We're best friends."

"Don't blame me," he growled, but then he lowered his voice and calmed it down. "I just don't think it's fair."

"Why?" I focused my eyes on him again.

"After these two failures, I gave up on the techniques I used so far and focused on my sensor skills and medical ninjutsu. I wanted to be the best support for you. I love to paint and I want to continue doing it, but I think I will be more useful as a support."
