Phil arrived five minutes late to his math class. He didn't appear anxious or frantic in the face of his math teacher, but rather dazed.
"Sorry, miss," the boy stuttered. "I uh--was helping a new kid--to his class, and well..."
"Excuses are not tolerated here. Sit."
Her response was harsh, which on a normal day would have bothered Phil. Being scolding was not something he was used to; he ended up crying on nearly every occasion. But today his mind wasn't in its normal place. It had been glazed over and numbed, while simultaneously experiencing a mental volcano, erupting emotions everywhere.
Was this love? Phil had never been in love before. In fact, he only ever dated one guy, back when he was fifteen. As most relationships that begin during games of Spin the Bottle at parties, it didn't last. The guy was a jerk anyway, and he and Phil were complete opposites. Phil didn't mind being single. He always was a sort of lone wolf. Constantly relying on a significant other for happiness seemed unideal and tedious; he didn't understand the appeal. It wasn't that he didn't like people, he just didn't really see the need to go through all that trouble.
It wasn't long before he began to rethink that.
Phil tapped his foot. He bit his pencil. He watched the clock. Thirty minutes, he thought, just thirty minutes.
It would only be thirty minutes until he was reunited with Dan, his new classmate. No, not classmate, friend. Friend? It would do.
He wondered how his dimpled, bright-eyed friend was doing. His friend and his perfect emo-but-not-too-emo hair. His ever-so-slightly shorter friend. Hopefully Dan's class was going well.
DAN'S POV
Phil.
What the fuck. Fucking shit. Fuck.
