"Who's Mermando?"
Mabel froze for a second, obviously not expecting the question. She looked nervously at your smile before swallowing a bit too hard. "H-he was someone I met back in 2012" A wobbly smile spread across her face.
"So Mermando is an interesting name, sounds foreign. Also why did he send you letters huh?" Your smirk grew larger at the sight of her reddening cheeks and nervous form.
"H-hes from... Spain!!... Y-ya Spain. That's why his name is weird!" She stutters out quickly.
"And the bottled notes?"
"He sent them to me after he moved!" Sweat started to form at brow of her forehead, her hands started fidgeting together. Your smirk shrank a bit, but you forced it to go back to its original size. You noticed that her eyes would look anywhere but yours, added to her fidgeting her hands you almost frowned.
While she just looks embarrassed, she doesn't fidget or avoid eye contact in normal situations. It's a habit that always shows when she hides something. Well a habit that grew a few weeks after her first summer trip to Gravity Falls.
You decided to see what was in the bottle while Mabel turned around, most likely to calm down. Everyone else seemed to be in their own conversation, not paying attention to you and Mabel. After a few seconds of pulling the cork, it came off with a loud, yet short 'pop', getting everyone to turn their head to you as you put the cork next to you. You shook out the yellow paper, grabbing the necklace along with it.
The chain of the necklace looked like it was made with silver, a charm hung from the bottom. It was a ribcage with a dark blue jewel in place for where the heart would be. The jewel shimmered brightly in the sunlight before you put it in one of your shorts pockets.
You unrolled the yellow paper, wondering what it might say. But instead of meeting any words, you instead saw what looked like a scribbled mess. Ink splatters covered the sides of the paper. Some words can be seen under the black ink, but not enough to be able to make out anything. Confusion painted across your face as you looked at the paper.
"Hey can I see that?" Dipper asks as he leans over to grab it, but before you can hand it to him, the boat shifts to your side. You let out a surprised yelp, letting go of the paper in the air before you crash into the water.
Water rushed around you as you sunk deeper into the lake, watching bubbles rise up from below you. You made no attempt to move, just watching the ripples move along the surface of the water. You felt almost numb, like nothing else mattered. The light simmered through the water, casting shadows.
You broke out of your trance as a pair of arms grab you, dragging you back up to the surface. You gasp for breath once the air surrounds you instead of water, coughing out the remaining water from your lungs. Ringing filled your ears and the world around you was blurred, nothing but colors and shapes were seen.
Through the ringing you could faintly hear the sound of someone talking, "....)..(..n.! (Y/N)!" Voices called you name. Slowly your vision went back to normal, only to see everyones faces above yours, all showing panic and concern. You were laying down somehow in the small boat. It was only then that you noticed how cold you were from the cool breeze. You shivered a bit before sitting up slowly as to not headbutt anyone.
Dipper was the first one to speak, "(Y/n)! Are you alright?! Do you hurt anywhere?!" His words came out in a jumbled, panic frenzy to you brain, making it take a minute for your brain to register what he was saying.
You chuckled softly before shaking you head side to side. "Do you need to go back to the shack? We could do this another time." This time Grunkle Ford spoke. When you looked up at him, you saw panic and concerning flashing through his eyes, but his face just looked in different.
"N-no, I'll be fine waiting in the car warming up, you guys continue your fun. Don't let my stupid, drenched butt ruin your fun," you smiled at them, trying to suppress your shivering. They looked at you with worry but didn't try to argue as Stan drove the boat to the dock.
Everyone was quiet during the ride, filling the air with awkward tense silence, although no one bothered to say anything. You almost wanted to break the atmosphere but decided against it. So you did the only thing you could do, just think.
You thought of the conversation with Mabel. You frowned, 'why would she lie about something as small as meeting someone?' You tried to come up with reasons as to why but found none that matched up completely. 'Maybe he's a merman' you snickered to yourself.
You decided to move on before you get a headache, so you moved on to your watery experience. You remember feeling someone lift you up, but now that you can see, everyone is still dry, not a speck of water on any of their outfits... 'If someone did grab me, then who did?'
