You waited until the boat fully stopped before stepping on the wooden dock, grabbing your (thankfully dry) backpack, smiling at you family before walking off. Grunkle Ford and Stan seemed hesitant but started to steal the boat off to continue their family fun day. Once you heard nothing but a faint wir of the boat, your smile dropped into a slight frown, crossing your arms and rubbing your hands across them to try to retain some heat. The breeze increased, causing a shiver to rock your body.
Once you reached the car, you opened it, feeling the heat blast out of it from sitting in the car, which you welcomed happily. Your clothing was drenched with lake water, but dry enough to not drip with water.
You took out a camping chair from the back of the car that you stuffed in earlier this week. After you unfolded it you unbuttoned you flannel, hanging it on the back of the chair to dry before sitting in it yourself, basking in heat now that one your arms are no longer covered in damp fabric. Your black tank top seemed to be dryer than your flannel.
Just as you sat, a thought ran across your mind, causing you to panic and unzip your shorts pocket to only pull out your phone. Water seemed to still cover it, droplets falling onto the black asphalt under you. You shuddered at the sight of it, scolding yourself internally for keeping it in your pocket.
You sighed sadly, "Looks like you need to be put into rice for a while." You started setting your phone into the pocket on the arm rest before something fell out of your hand. You were confused until you looked at it, it was the skeletal rib cage necklace. Instead of the jewel being blue, it instead looked amber.
Confused (which you seemed to be a lot) you brought it closer to your face to get a better look when it all of a sudden started shining with white light, causing you to jump out of chair in surprise. Before your bottom could hit the black road, arms seemed to grab you, putting you up right and standing.
Once you were standing, you turned your head left and right, looking for any one who could've helped you, but to your surprise and puzzlement, no one was there in the parking lot, only unoccupied cars. You looked back at the necklace, only to see a faint teal glow coming from the heart jewel, the cause not being the sun. You slowly sat back in your chair, stareing at the charm in hand to see if it would do it again.
When nothing happened, you sighed. 'I must be seeing things. I probably just got water in the brain' You started to put the necklace back into your pocket when you got the urge to put it on. You didn't think much of it and clipped it around your neck. A feeling of safety and peace washed over you, causing you to unconsciously smile.
When you relaxed into your seat, you noticed how the wind was no longer cold, and as you patted yourself down, your clothing was dry. You then felt around for your flannel, too lazy to turn around before grabbing it, putting it back around your torso, buttoning it up to cover your tank top, the necklace hiding underneath. You got up to stand, stretching a bit from your slightly sour muscles. You look up at the sky, the sun shining in the middle indicating that it's only noon, and still a couple of hours before everyone else will be done with the family fun day.
You sigh sadly before looking at the forest around you. You feel an urge to go, the wanting to explore it tugged at your mind, so you put up the chair and grabbed your backpack. Before you left though you made a note incase they came back before you and put it in the car along with you wet phone. You walked along the edge of the forest, inhaling the scent of pine trees and Oak. You smiled, glad you get to smell this instead of the noxious gasses that pollute the city around where you lived in California.
You stopped suddenly when you say a path. It looked old and unused as the overgrowth of the forest has almost made the path invisibility. Your curiosity took over and you started to tread down the path, watching the trees move past, carefully stepping over the branches of bushes and avoiding the roots.
After a bit you started humming a song, the lyrics as clear as day. It became your favorite the moment the song came up on the radio. You have to say that Avicii was a talented artist. The longer you hummed the more you wanted to sing, so you did. At first it came out as a whisper, but you soon got into the grove, singing at a normal volume.
"Hey brother, there's an endless road to rediscover...
Hey sister, know that waters sweet but blood is thicker
Ohh, and if the sky is falling down, for you
There's nothing in this world I wouldn't doHey brother, do you still believe in one another?
Hey sister, do you still believe in love? I wonder.
Oh, and if the sky was falling down, for you
There's nothing in this world I wouldn't doWhat if I'm far from home?
Oh brother I will hear you call
What if I lose it all?
Oh sister I will help you out.
Oh, and if the sky is falling down, for you
There's nothing in this world I wouldn't do"At the end of the song, your mind finally came back to reality, you had stopped walking and tears leaked from your eyes. The forest seemed to be stilled as if a disaster was going to happen. When you looked around after wiping away the years that clung to your lashes, you noticed a small clearing up ahead. You started walking closer, the previous trail seemed non existent. When you got there you recognised it as the clearing from this morning, though is seemed like a while ago. As you looked around you saw something you didn't earlier. There in the trees was non other that a triangle shaped rock, covered in moss.
