Anna's POV

Sunday

"Alex, give up the remote," I say quietly gazing at the little boy behind his glasses. Wanna know how he even got those glasses to begin with? Funny the same tv he's sitting in front of.

He narrows his brown eyes at me before shaking his head, "Nope. Come to think of it, you had the tv all day yesterday."

"Dudee, I did not. I was at Jonae's yesterday and before that I was at the cafe. Is lying your defense mechanism now? I thought it was screaming." I argue crossing my arms.

"Well, who cares. I want to watch Mech X4 so wait your turn, or better yet don't wait at all cause you're not getting it." and with that he turns around completely ignoring me as he slides through the channels finding the station for that show.

How can a 10-year-old kid be such a pain? And it's going to look really bad if a 17-year-old fights her 10-year-old brother, right?

"Ughh, kids." I groan, falling back into the sofa, my eyes meeting the dark grey ceiling.

"Why don't you go read a book or something?" Alex says his eyes still glued to the screen, as he takes a rather big and unpleasant bite from his chicken sandwich. Breadcrumbs falling in his lap. Ew.

I know who's going to be on living room clean up duty, and it's not me.

"What do you think I was doing before mom practically dragged me from my room?" I ask, a look of annoyance spreading across my face. I don't know what it is, but when parents see their children at peace, something erupts within them, and they try to destroy the little peace we found. Suddenly the place needs to be swept and mopped. The nonexistent clothes need to be folded, and the cobwebs need to be taken down.

He laughs then turns to face me, "You're a 17-year-old girl whose life is as boring as an old widow. How are you even my sister?"

I gasp feeling very much offended, "And you're a 10-year-old boy with a brain the size of a peanut." I fire back.

"Hey! My brain is the size of a soccer ball."

Snorting, I go to reply but I'm immediately cut off by my mom's voice.

"Say anything else Anna, and I'll burn one of your books." mom smirks at me. She's always on my brother's side. But I'm not offended or anything because I have my dad.

Looking at her in shock I have no choice but to shut my trap. She must've gotten that idea from Alex. I look over at him giving him my middle finger glowering at him. He just flips me off as well then laughs before turning back to the screen of the tv.

Mom walks over to us, her curly brown hair bouncing with her every movement, "Alex don't you have homework to do? Or should I call Mrs. Penny to add more?"

Now it was my turn to snicker as he scrambles from the sofa muttering a 'yes mom' before running up the stairs. His heavy footsteps echoing through the house before he slams his door shut.

Mom then fixates her eyes on me trying to look serious before she and I burst out laughing.

"How was that?" she asks smiling triumphantly.
