The Winchester brothers were absolutely invincible, to some extent. They were still humans. They felt the agony. But something about them made the universe want to keep them around for a while. They averted death on many occasions, only having to be patched up with homemade medical supplies. The brothers never failed to keep hunting the supernatural. Sam and Dean stuck by their motto: "saving people, hunting things, the family business." It wasn't the ideal lifestyle, but they had each other and that's what truly mattered to them.
They've been hunting down the Yellow Eyed Demon for years now, and have finally come close. However, Sam had been shipped off to an unknown location with other beings like him, psychic children. They were threats to hunters and weapons for demons. Given demon blood at the beginning of their twisted lives, these people all managed to congregate in this one abandoned town with only one objective: to stay alive. Easier said then done, their numbers dwindled until only two remained. Sam and Jake were the only survivors left. Sam, being the diplomatic human he was, negotiated with Jake to defeat the demon together, but unfortunately failed at this task.
Sam failed to turn around in time before the sleek blade of the knife in Jake's hand pierced through his lower back in one swift movement. His mind went blank as he felt his blood soaking his clothing too fast for his liking. The recently arrived Dean ran to his brother's aid, taking Sam's dying body in his own arms. Dean couldn't comprehend his emotions towards everything he and his brother went through ever since he first met up with Sam at Stanford. Now Sam paid the ultimate price in the Yellow Eyed Demon's sick game.
Dean laid Sam's cold body onto the twin-sized bed at their motel with a goal to get his brother back on his feet. He grabbed his essential gear and stormed out of the house to his 1967 Chevrolet Impala without a second though. Dean knew that the only way to get Sam breathing, was to make a deal with a crossroad demon. He would rather die knowing Sam comes out fine, then watch his younger brother's heart stop beating in front of him.

A sense of calmness enveloped Sam as he opened his green eyes to an strangely familiar surrounding. He found himself in the library of Bobby's home, but with no Dean and no Bobby in sight.
"Dean? Bobby? You here?" Sam asked the empty space hoping for a reply.
"Hello Sam," A feminine voice spoke out from behind the tall young man.
Startled, Sam jumped a little before spinning in the direction of the voice and hopelessly tried to find his gun, but it was missing from its usual spot, "Who are you?"
"Calm down, Sam. You won't be needing any weapons anytime soon," The woman told him, "My name's Tessa, I'm a reaper, more specifically, your reaper."
"So that means-"
"You're dead," Tessa slowly spoke, cutting Sam off.
A flash of memories bombarded Sam's vision, playing almost movie-style in his head, "Wait. Jake stabbing me in that town." He turned his head to examine the stab wound, seeing a deep crimson stain on his clothing. "That's how I died?"
"Unfortunately, yes."
Sam started to pace around the room trying to calm the nerves that were making their way to his body. He can't be dead. He was supposed to live a normal life, with no more hunting or monsters or wild goose chases. He was supposed to be a lawyer, until Dean came along. Oh Dean, God knows how he's handling this mess. He's probably drowning himself in twenty kinds of booze, while trying to figure out how to get Sam back. Sam grabbed a small section of his slightly curly hair and gave it a tug of frustration. Well, if he's dead, he should stay dead. He's just one small life in a world of billions of people, why should his be valued more than others?
