“Greetings my love, for now I bid you farewell as tears shed through my face as I leave you on this holy day not promising to come back. I bid you not mourn in my demise but rejoice my love! For even death could not destroy our sacred vows for though I know the gods are not broken to deaf ears. As our prayers shall be heard and soon enough we will be reunited once again…….

.....I have found hope…..”

I was oblivious to the things around me after the incident between Orpheus and Eurydice, suddenly I hear a voice…it’s the voice of my wife! She’s in front of me smiling waving farewell I tried to go run after her but it seems I can’t move any muscle I was petrified.

Suddenly, I was awoken by beautiful maiden she asked me if I was one of her suitors. I rapidly declined on a sight of relief, this young maiden introduced herself. She is Atalanta the fastest woman in Greece. I’ve never seen a face that confident and that beautiful in all my years of living. Atalanta was a jolly young maiden but I could sense that something is disturbing her.

As I wander the woods with Atalanta I could not help to ask what bothering her. At first she was silent and looked at me with her blue enticing eyes. Slowly she begins to speak. She told me long ago she have consulted an oracle, the oracle told her if she were ever to marry, it would only bring her to her demise.

She decided never to marry. Instead, she developed a plan which prohibited any man marrying her. The only way a man could only marry Atalanta, was if he beat her in a footrace. If any man challenged her and lost, they would be executed.

Well maybe life is rough for Atalanta but trust me, life is much harder for her suitors. Atalanta has never been defeated on a footrace before for she is gifted by the gods with an amazing speed. Despite the consequences if they lost, many young men came to Atalanta’s remote forest and challenged her to a race.

As expected, she won ever race leading to many men being killed. As I continue my track I was being followed by a young man who introduced himself as Hippomenes. Hippomenes asked me if I was also pursuing Atalanta and suppose to warn me about Atalanta. As if I don’t even know. As I tell Hippomenes everything I knew about Atalanta.

Hippomenes, watched the races and instantly fell in love with the beautiful Atalanta as he narrates further. He told me a secret to defeat Atalanta in a footrace so what I did, is to listen further cause in my head this young boy would have a chance onto defeating Atalanta and winning her heart over. Hippomenes told me that he prayed to the goddess of love Aphrodite.

The goddess, moved by his plea, showed him how to win. Aphrodite gave him three golden apples. I’ve accompanied Hippomenes unto searching for Atalanta.

We saw at the riverbank and hurriedly, Hippomenes challenged Atalanta into a footrace. Atalanta gladly accepted the challenge for she also have a liking for this boy Hippomenes. I was one who witnessed the speed of Atalanta and it was unbelievable.

As the race began, Atalanta took the lead three times. Hippomenes tossed one of the magical apples into her path and each time Atlanta paused to pick up the apple, allowing Hippomenes to take the lead.

Aphrodite made the last apple very heavy in order to slow Atalanta down, which led Hippomenes to won the race. I was amazed Atalanta was defeated.

The skies shines over the new couple. Suddenly I could feel my body fading away once again as I say goodbye to Atalanta and Hippomenes, I could not help to be more than happy for them. Now I know that in this world, it’s not only tragedies that happen.

Sometimes some of them ends in a happy ending.
