Why did you leave? (MewGulf Fanfic Short Story)

Broken

His mom, dad and younger sister Gaia bombarded Gulf with questions as soon as he reached home.

He sighed, "can we atleast sit and talk?"

They nodded and everybody sat down. Gulf gulped down some water before starting, "I wanted to tell you guys about my relationship since the time it started, but I was scared that you would not accept it, that you'd not accept me..."

"Oh God bro, which mafia leader's daughter are you dating that you're being so dramatic? Stop creating suspense and tell us who is it that you're in love with!" Gaia cut in.

"Mew" Gulf said slowly.

"What about Mew? Don't tell me you stole his girlfriend and that's why you kept it a secret!" his mother said with a horrified look.

Gulf rolled his eyes. "Would you guys stop making random assumptions? I meant it's Mew. I'm in love with Mew"

There was a silence.

Then Gaia sighed, "and here I was thinking I might have a chance with my brother's hot best friend"

"Gaia!" their mom exclaimed, "what kind of joke are you two playing at? He's a man Gulf, how could you be in love with him?"

Before Gulf could answer, Gaia spoke up "So what if he's a man? What has gender to do with love?"

"Gaia" their dad spoke, "go to your room"

"But dad-" she started but on seeing her father's stern look she got up and left, mouthing a sorry to Gulf.

"Gulf, I know living with all kinds of people might have put confusing ideas in your head. You haven't been in a relationship with a girl for a long time and you are mistaking your attachment to Mew for more than it is" his father said.

"No dad, I'm not confused about anything. There's nothing clearer to me than the fact that I'm in love with Mew and want to spend the rest of my life with him" Gulf replied calmly even though his heart was clenching.

"Enough Gulf!" his father exclaimed angrily, "I'm not going to accept this nonsense! You're going to break up with Mew and you're not going to keep in touch with him!"

Gulf was distraught, "Dad, how can you say that? I can't live without him!"

"Stop acting like a teenager, Gulf! You'll get out of this phase soon enough... I know what's best for you, you'll realise it sooner or later" his father replied.

"This is not a phase dad! Why can't you accept that I love him? He is a good person, he loves me and cares for me. Isn't that what parents look for in their child's life partner?" Gulf had known it would be difficult to explain to his parents about his relationship with Mew, but now actually doing it was proving to be more frustrating and painful.

"Since when have you started arguing with me, Gulf? I can already see how all these ideas are spoiling you" his father remarked angrily, "I've told you my decision, break up with him and shift elsewhere"

Gulf looked to his mother for help but she shook her head, "your father is right, do as he says"

Gulf's eyes were brimming with tears but he blinked them back and stood up.
"I'm going back"

"Good, get it over with as soon as possible" his mother said.

"I'm not breaking up with Mew, Mom" Gulf stated.

His parents were shocked and didn't speak while Gulf collected his wallet and car key from the table.

"You're choosing him over us?" his father said slowly.

Gulf turned to look at his father with a pained expression, "I'm not choosing anyone over anyone. I know it is a lot for you both, I'm just giving you time to process this. I'll come back next weekend and we'll talk again"

His father stood up and replied coldly, "there's nothing left to talk about. You can get out of my house now, you're not allowed here anymore", with that he went to his room.

Gulf stood there shaken to the core. He looked at his mother but she gave him a disappointed look and followed her husband to their room.

Gulf turned and left.

Gaia, who had been eavesdropping the conversation at her room's door came out and called after Gulf, but he didn't turn back.

It was past midnight but Mew couldn't sleep. He had sent several messages to Gulf but had got no reply. He was anxious thinking what might have happened between Gulf and his parents.

He sighed. Gulf must have been tired and fallen asleep by now, he thought. He told himself it would be alright and Gulf would contact him in the morning.

His thoughts were broken by ringing of the doorbell. He rushed to the door and opening it found Gulf standing with blank eyes and an expressionless face in front of him.

"What's wrong Gulf?" he asked, worried.

Gulf didn't reply and went inside.

The next three days were very hard for Mew. From Gulf's state he knew things had not gone well at home. When Gulf remained non-responsive the next day as well, Mew  had called Gaia to know what had actually happened. Mew understood that Gulf was in shock. He had called both their offices and took the week off. He stuck by Gulf, taking care of him, bathing him, trying to make him eat and talk. But Gulf seemed lost.

On the third night following the incident Mew sat in front of Gulf. It was painful for him to see Gulf in this state and not being able to reach him.
Mew took in a deep breath and said "Gulf, let's break up".
