Tate Sawyer was mourning the end of the world. She grieved for the life she hadn't had the chance to live. The world robbed her of publishing her first book. The world stole the chance for her to properly fall in love with someone. She was left with the fact that she would never see anyone that she knew ever again. She could no longer prove people who underestimated her wrong. The world falling apart swept everything that Tate Sawyer could have been right from under her. She was angry. Everything that Tate worked so hard for was gone and was left meaningless. She could no longer dream, or have hopes and desires because the only thing she could focus on was not dying. 

If the new meaning of life in a world that ended was not dying, did that make her any better than the rotting corpses that rose from their graves?

Austin Ventura finally lived in this world in peace. He was never given the opportunity to thrive or to even try to succeed. The world had decided that his life would amount to nothing as soon as he took his first breath. As soon as the world ended, the things he was so worried about before meant nothing anymore. He did not have to worry about bills, money, work, what park bench he was going to sleep on that night anymore. He could finally breathe. Austin Ventura was finally free. Only having to worry about how swift his death would be and how to avoid the sound of snapping teeth, Austin finally smiled for real for the first time in years. 

Somehow a girl with bleached hair and a bad fringe would claw his way into his heart and then he would start to finally fear death. Dying meant that he would never see Tate Sawyer's pretty face again and that would probably break his now-beating heart.
