a thorn removed,
to us,
means relief.
but for a rose,
a thorn removed means
a part of it gets missing.03/01/2020

I wrote this during the funeral of my uncle who had Down Syndrome- he was in his 40s. He spent his life living with his Mom (my great aunt) who unceasingly took care of him, until she herself had fallen ill. Taking care of him had obviously been a responsibility, and his death- was seen and considered by most as finally a chance for him ( and his mom) to rest. But as I looked at my great-aunt I simply could not shrug off how much sorrow she could have been experiencing in the passing of her beloved.Update: My great- aunt died 40-ish days ago. Due to complications in her health.
