"Breathe in. Breathe out."
Your master instructed while twisting his legs.
"Remember to breathe."
"I know, dad." You said in a heated tone. He just chuckled and moved your body.
"Remember my son. You must be like what you bend. Like water, you must be fluid and adapt." You nodded and followed him.
"Part the horse's mane." You moved your arms out in front of you. You curled your left arm. Then, with your other, I ran it down the middle. Your legs moved slightly. Your father nodded in approval.
"Good job, Y/N. Now bend the water." He said, gesturing to a pit of water.
"Dad, I don't think I ca -"
"Try Y/N. Water is just a reflection of your body. It moves with you. Not like earth that is moved by you, not air where it is pushed by you, or fire which is shot from you. Water is you. It is in your body." You nodded and breathed in and out.
You moved your legs slightly to the right and gently squatted. You moved your arms in a spiral. The water slowly began to rise. It then in a spiral. "Good, good. Concentrate on the water and turn it into a substance." You took a breath and breathed out. The water froze in place as your father chuckled.
"Good job. You've improved. Soon you might be better than your old man." You laughed.
"Dad, no one can beat you. Especially here with all this water."
"Even us masters can be overwhelmed. Come let us have a drink."
You laughed and walked along with your father into your personal home. Your father was a master waterbender. Who had built this village in the southern water tribe. He took inspiration from the beautiful homes of the earth kingdom.
You sat down on a rug as your father bent water into a tea pot and began to boil it.
"If your mother was here, she would say,"
"Dad."
"Yes, I know." He said, pouring you a cup of tea. You took a sip and savored the warm feeling.
You were a waterbender. Your father and mother were waterbenders too. Originally, you were raised up in the northern water tribe. Until you moved down to the southern water tribe.
During your life, you visited Omashu, and while there, your mother lost her life protecting an innocent man from a fire bender. Your father in such anger killed the man and returned with you back to the water tribe. Now you were 16 and a training waterbender. You yawned and prepared to lay down.
That was when something fluttered into your home. You picked it up and lifted it up to your face.
"Dad, I've never seen black snow before." Your dad's eyes widened. A look of shock filling his view.
"Son, stay here." Your father commanded, rising from his seat.
"Why? Dad, what's going on?" You questioned rising from your seat.
"Just stay here and don't come out!" Your dad exclaimed quickly, running outside your home.
You stood up and walked to the door. You opened it to find firebenders attacking the village. You watched as they attacked all those around them. A few warriors fought back.you watched your father and a few other waterbenders fight back. Freezing the men in place. You ran outside and joined the battle.
You weren't very well adept in waterbending, though you could do something. You summoned water from the ice around you and refroze a few soldiers. Three ships had broken through the walls. Your father in disbelief threw a ship over and froze it in place. Your father led the fight up to the wall. He three over a few soilders. More and more soldiers came. You followed close behind. You watched your father with the most power you have seen him use. Tip over another ship freezing it in a large block of ice. However, the last ship had more soldiers. Bringing down waterbender and warrior, leaving only two waterbenders, your father, and yourself. The four of you prepared to take down the last ship.
"Enough!" You looked up to see a top knot flying wildly in the wind. The scar on the side of his face made you shiver. He jumped down from the ship. And an elderly man followed slowly.
"I've had enough of you!" He yelled he began to kick in the air, sending fire blasts towards your direction.
The two waterbenders failed to protect themselves. Leaving you and your father. The boy growled and began to fire blasts after blast. The two of you easily countered. Sending a wave of water towards the teen. You froze it in place, stopping the male.
"Prince Zuko. Remember your breathing!" The elder yelled from a distance. As your father's eyes widened.
"Prince Zuko?" He said as the teen began to melt the ice with his breathing.
"Son, stand back!" Your father yelled.
The teen busted free of the ice and shot a large ball of fire in your direction. Your father jumped in front of it, shooting him back.
"Dad!" You exclaimed, running to him. You summoned forth water and wrapped it around your hands. The water began to glow. As you healed your father.
"How dare you try to!"
"Prince Zuko!" The elder exclaimed.
"Let him heal his father first!" He yelled as the teen stopped and watched you.
Your tears began to mix with the water as you mumbled your father's name.
"Come on, dad. Come on. Mom showed me this. This should work. Come on, dad." You said as your father's eyes opened.
"Y/N.." he said weakly.
"I am here to take all of you waterbenders!" The male yelled.
"No! Just take me!" Your father yelled. The boy walked towards you.
"You're just an old man. What are you worth?"
"Stop!" You yelled, making the teen growl.
"What gives you the right. I am Prince Zuko. The crown prince to the fire nation!"
"Don't you mean the former crown prince?" You retorted, pissing the boy off as he readied an attack. The elder behind him grabbed him.
"Wait, Zuko. This boy could be useful. He has healing powers. Think of how we could use him." The elder explained.
"But Uncle Iroh."
"Think before you act Zuko." This remark just caused the boy to growl.
"I'm taking you all!"
"No! Just take me. I am the only healer. Please just take me. I'll do anything." You said bowing down to your head. The prince scoffed and nodded.
"Fine, we'll just take you." He said, yanking you towards him.
"Wait!" Your father yelled. You looked at him with tearful eyes.
"Be strong. Remember your teachings. Be strong minded like your mother, unbreakable like me, and adaptable like water." You nodded in sadness. You were pulled away from him. Onto the boat that would change your life.
