Adam and I spent the rest of the evening playing cards around the fire, chatting away about the Summer holidays. I'd gone to Italy with my family, like we do every year, whilst Adam had gone up to Scotland to visit his grandparents.

As the night drew in, I could tell Adam was thinking about when we would collect our timetables. The Common Room was now bustling, and it was getting noisier, with crowds of people nattering away and catching up on what was new. "I think we ought to collect them now," I suggested, and he nodded in response. We pushed our way out of the Common Room and onto a nearby staircase. Loitering around outside the entrance to the Common Room were three girls: Kara Wilson, Lola French and Alice Butler. There were all fifth year Slytherins, but Adam was good friends with them and I'd gotten to know them over the years. They were nice girls, but with the way they were eyeing us up, I wasn't interested. "Hey," Adam greeted them as we walked by, but nothing more was said.

Professor Hadley, a small, plump lady who also happened to be our head of year, was who we were going to get our timetables from. "I wonder what lessons we've got tomorrow," I thought out loud as we walked briskly down the long corridors of the castle. I knocked twice on the Professor's door and she welcomed us inside.

"Boys," she said sternly, motioning for us to take a seat. "You've come for your timetables, have you?" She paced up and down before slamming them onto the desk. "Why have you come so late?" She leant over the desk, staring deeply into our faces.
"We wanted the rush to die down," I replied quickly before Adam could say something.
"Is that right?" She crossed her arms and stared at us disbelievingly. Sighing, she said with a huff "be gone. I'll see you tomorrow." And at that we both moaned, as Professor Hadley taught History of Magic, which was literally hell.

We exited her office and made our way back to the Common Room slowly, for we were examining our timetables. For the majority, we were in the same classes, but Adam was taking Astronomy and instead I'd chosen Wizarding Law. "Seriously?" I exclaimed, sighing loudly. "Tomorrow I've got History of Magic followed by Charms, then Potions, and finally I've got Herbology. Luckily, though, I have a free period after Herbology. What about you?"

"Not much better, really. We've got History of Magic and Charms together, then I have Defence Against the Dark Arts, and finally Herbology then a free period. What do you wanna do?"

I shrugged. "I dunno, homework or something." I then kept walking, before realising that Adam was still stood, mouth hanging open.
"Homework?" He said accusingly, looking me up and down. "You want to do homework in a free period? Seriously?"
"Well what do you suggest we do?" I questioned him.
"Uh, isn't it obvious?! Chat with people, make new connections, maybe pick up a girl."
"That's never gonna happen. But it sure beats homework. Let's do it." Smiling, we headed back to the Common Room.
