Chapter 7: The Idea

"SOMEONE HAS PUT A SPELL ON ME!!!" Mao Mao screeched to Tanya, who had decided to stay indefinitely. Adorabat and Badgerclops had gone to get something for lunch.

"What?" Tanya turned her eyes away from the TV, which was playing some soap opera.

"Someone put a spell on me!" Mao Mao now stood in front of the TV, waving his arms around like a mad man.

"Why do you say this?" Tanya was smirking now, it was the best thing when Mittens made such wild accusations.

"I can't eat! I can't sleep! I feel like I just got my father's praise, then I wanna hurl myself off of the arocycle! I can't stop thinking about Badgerclops and his stupid, lazy, adorable face and how much I want to-" Mao Mao shut his mouth, blushing and looking full of shame.

"Mittens~" Tanya cooed, looking full of utter glee, "What do you want to do?" Tanya leaned forward, her hands supporting her head.

"Nothing!" The cat sat on the opposite end of the couch and put his hands over his eyes.

"Come on~ You know you wanna tell me~" Tanya completely ignored her friend's personal space, leaning in so she could make sure she could catch every detail. Mao Mao peeked at her through his fingers, contemplating if he should tell her.

"I want to..." The sheriff's hands flopped into his lap, he chewed his bottom lip for a moment, lost in thought, "kiss him..." Mao Mao looked at his friends from the corner of his eyes, hoping her reaction wouldn't be bad. When he saw it he wished it was bad.

"Oh! Mittens~" Tanya looked as excited as a child on Christmas. Her smile reached ear to ear and her eyes took up a good portion of her face. She was beginning to clap from excitement.

"So what, it's not like it means anything!" Mao Mao's face was such a bright pink that you couldn't see the black beneath.

"Mittens, you love him! You're finally starting to realize it!" Tanya wrapped her friend in a giant hug, smothering him as he struggled, embarrassed.

"No I don't!" Mao Mao pushed his ecstatic friend away from him, still looking more red than black. Tanya smirked again, an idea blooming in her brain.

"You know~" Tanya scooted over, throwing an arm around his shoulder, "I think I heard Badgerclops talking about asking you out on a date~"

"Really?" Mao Mao's eyes perked up almost instantly, his head turning to look at Tanya in hope. As soon as Tanya started biting her lip to contain her laughter, the sheriff realized he had been tricked.

"That's not funny." Mao Mao grumbled as Tanya started snorting with laughter.

"Oh you are head over heels for that badger!" Tanya wiped her eyes, which now had tears of joy, as her laughter died off. Mao Mao didn't say anything, he just sat there, pouting.

"You know," Tanya crossed her arms, "YOU could always ask Badgerclops on a date." Mao Mao sat and mulled over Tanya's words.

"Maybe I will..." The cat brightened up at the thought. Tanya felt her eyes almost pop.

"Wait, what?"

"H-hey, Badgerclops." Mao Mao's voice was nervous as he sat next to the badger, who was playing a video game. He paused it when he heard his friends voice.

"Sup, Mao Mao?" Badgerclops was genuinely pleased to see his friend.

"I was wondering if maybe, if you have nothing better to do, we could go out sometime. We could...get...food...." Mao Mao felt more and more uneasy as Badgerclops's eyes slowly began to widen.

"Mao Mao, are you asking me on a date?" Mao Mao squirmed at his deputy's words. Badgerclops's eyes on him weren't helping.

"Well, we don't have to call it that." Mao Mao felt a nervous sweat, Badgerclops still stared at him, his wide eyed stare, unchanged, "You know what, it's a stupid idea." The sheriff went to get up, but Badgerclops stopped him.

"I'd love to go out with you, Mao Mao." The cat turned, about to speak, but was stopped by Badgerclops's metal index finger to his lips. "Tommorow, 8 o'clock, I'll ask Tanya to babysit Adorabat." Badgerclops turned off his game and got up to leave.

"But, you don't know where we're going?" Mao Mao stated, making Badgerclops turn back and wink at him.

"Surprise me." Badgerclops walked away, humming a happy tune, and leaving Mao Mao clutching his fast beating heart.
