It was if my worst nightmare was actually coming true. He'd found me. How? And how in the hell did that sick bastard get into my apartment. I know for a fact that I locked the door and the lock didn't look tampered with when I got home. My mind was racing with so many differnt questions, the biggest one hit me like a freight train. Is he still here? Fear began to run through me faster at the thought that he might still be in here somewhere. I was frozen and refused to move. I didn't want to check. If I did find him here what would I do? Scream? Cry? Run? He'd catch me, everytime I ran he caught me. Then I heard a knock on the door that brought me out of the trance of horrible memories, but added to my fear. I slowly walked to the door and tried to look out the peephole, but as always I was too short. So I asked who was at the door instead.
"Who is it?"
"Uhhmmm... Its me Maya, Darius. You left your planner in class"
I was actually relieved to hear his voice even though I didn't know him at all really. So I opened the door and let him in.
"Thanks for bringing to me. How'd you get my address?"
"It was in the planner" he giggled. But then his mood changed as he studied my face he looked worried. "Are you ok you look terrified? I should've just called instead of showing up. I didn't mean to frighten you, I'll leave your planner and just go."
Before he could go I called out. "Wait" I didn't want him to think that he had scared me.
"Thank you for bringing me my planner I really appreciate it and you didn't frighten me. If anything seeing you brought relief, I was kinda scared before you got here."
"Why were you scared? What happened?"
I didn't know what to tell him though. Its not like I could just say that someone left a bouquet of roses and a teddy bear on my bed and that the person could very well be my crazy ex. He'd probably look at me like I was crazy and then cancel our date. So instead I just decided my best option was to lie.
"Umm... well when I got home my window was open and I didn't remeber leaving it open." When I said that he seemed to get even more concerned.
"WHAT! Are you alright? Is anything missing? Have you checked the apartment? Do you need me too?" He began to frantically spit out questions while he stared at me wide eyed. He had also began to raise his arms in a very protective manner.
"Its ok, I'm fine. I'm pretty sure that I left the window open and just don't remember as you can see I'm quite forgetful."
He looked at me as if he didn't really believe me but also didn't want to push. He then glanced all around himself with his head held slightly to the air. After that he looked down the hall toward my room then looked back at me.
"Are you absolutely positive that you are ok?"
His question took me slightly by surprise. He barely knew me and yet he seemed to be truly worried about me.
"Yes I'm fine."
"Ok, in that case I'm going to go but if you need anything just call me."
"Alright, and thank you again for bringing me my planner. I appreciate it."
"No problem, I'll see you on Wednesday. Bye."
"Bye."
After that he left and for a moment I regretted not having him look around the apartment. I still wasn't sure that he had left and if by any chance he was still in my apartment I was surely going to have a heart attack. I cautiously walked to the kitchen and grabbed a knife. Then I began to slowly walk towards the hallway. I checked the hall closet first, then the bathroom, and finally I went back into my room. I checked my bedroom closet and under my bed and found no traces that he was still in my apartment. So I went back to my bed and picked up the note that was attached to the roses. "I miss you" was written in big bold letters on the front. I turned it over and on the back it read: "You actually thought that you could get away from me. I love you Maya. You belong to me. And no court order or judge is going to keep me from what is mine. One way or another we are going to be together FOREVER." My heart immediately sank into the pit of my stomach. This couldn't be happening. I was supposed to finally be free. This was supposed to be my new start. I thought I had finally gotten rid of him, but here he was. And what did he mean by one way or another. Was he threatening me. He had already ruined two whole years of my life what more could he take from me.
I decided to gather the roses, the teddy bear, and the note and put them into a trash bag that I would take out in the morning when I left for school. I ended up throwing away my sandwhich as well, my appetite had completely disappeared. I made sure all my widows were locked as well as the front door and the hopped in the shower. After my shower I climbed into my bed emotionally drained and utterly terrified and remained there staring at the ceiling for the rest of the night.
