Long car rides make Ian nauseous and it didn't help that Bryce's entire weight was on him the entire time, robbing him of the chance to at least sleep and distract his mind off the unwavering scent of Asher's van. It wasn't that it smelled bad. It's just that he would've preferred sitting on the roof of the car than to be stuck on the edge of his seat with Snoring McGargle here beside him.

"Are we there yeeeet?" Blake whined loudly as he threw his head back in boredom.

"I think I need to pee," Emery blurted beside him.

"You peed ten minutes ago, Em," Asher muttered, eyes focused on the road before them. "I warned you guys that it's gonna be a long ride but you insisted against booking a flight."

They were on their way to Asher's parents' lake house in New Hampshire, which was, as mentioned, a long drive that was approximately three to four hours, not accounting for Blake's tantrums and pitiful demands for candy pit stops. There had been four of those already, plus three bathroom breaks, so who knows when they'd get there and whether America would still be free by the time that happens.

Asher's stepdad called him a week ago, saying they could have the lake house since the school gave them a short break to unwind. Norton High loves its seniors, obviously. That, or the staff can't just wait to get rid of them. Either way, a break is a break, and Ian loved the idea of spending his on a hammock overlooking trees and a big green lake.

"That was Blake," Emery pointed exhaustedly. "I wholeheartedly would rather be on a plane than here full offense to all of you people."

Blake reached for his sunglasses, tugging them down as he gave Emery a flabbergasted look. "Have you seen Air Force One?"

"No?"

"Really? You should. It's a great movie."

"What are we gonna do when we get there?" Ian asked Asher, popping open one of the potato chips he brought for the trip.

"I don't know. We don't really plan these things," Asher answered. "Sometimes we just end up marathon-ing movies in the living room."

"Ugh. Let's not do that," Ian told them, reaching inside the bag. The sound of the wrapper crinkling stirred Bryce awake from his slumber, making Ian look down at the boy who slowly sat up, looking disoriented.

"Good morning," he muttered lowly at the blond who all but scowled in response.

"Where are we?" he asked, extending his limp arm to grab some of Ian's chips, then it was Ian's turn to scowl at him.

"I don't know, you tell me," Ian said. Bryce looked out the window and groaned, "I'm gonna go back to sleep."

Ian watched as he covered his face with a hand towel before passing out literally seconds later. He's always envied how Bryce manages to sleep on cue without fail. It normally takes him at least an hour after closing his eyes to sleep, but Bryce makes it look so easy.
