Snake Eyes woke up before her and waited. He reveled in the moment as long as he could. Being like this with her wasn't going to last long.

His prediction came true when she did wake up. At first she just stayed still.

Until she spoke, "I have to go on a mission in a few hours."

With his hands in front of her, he signed, I know. I want to tell you the truth.

"Finally?" she questioned.

Yes, finally. The Cobra Commander is building his forces at a rate that we can no longer prevent. He's amassing an army stronger than before.

"And you couldn't tell me this?"

Nobody else knows.

"And how long are you planning to keep this secret?"

It all depends on Hawk's higher-ups. But now that you know-

"I have to keep quiet?" she interrupted.

Yes, but it also means I don't have to keep anything from you.

"Have you told Hawk?" she finally asked, the question weighing on her for the past few days. "About the night that I..."

No, but I was hoping to convince you to go see Doc, or at least talk about it.

"Thank you," she whispered, leaving his arms and starting to get dressed. She made sure the towel covered everything important while she slipped on clothes. "It was just a nightmare," she said, looking for his hands in her peripheral vision.

What was it about?

"I don't really remember. I know my mother was there. And I think I was here in the Pit. Other than that, nothing."

You don't talk about your mother or your clan. Or really anything about your life before you came here.

"Neither do you," she point out as she busied herself packing.

I've at least told you the general things.

"Okay. Generally speaking. I was born in Japan and grew up in the clans. I started training at 6 years of age and became one of the youngest masters at 13 to the top three clans of Japan. I worked as a mercenary, a spy, a personal bodyguard. I've traded secrets, lives, and money. I entered into Cobra as a favor. Not only to oversee Tommy, but to trade my services to protect the clans. Eventually, it wasn't enough and I came to the Joes to stop Cobra. I take care of one child and I am the godmother to another. I have fourteen other siblings and most are dead because I killed them."

That hung in the open before she found the air to speak again

"My mother is the Grand Master and I don't like people knowing because they treat me differently when they know that or the things I've done. And now I'm faced with you and Hawk who refuse to give me answers-"

I told you, Snake Eyes signed, walking up to her only to be greeted with a hard slap to the face.

The room was silent for a moment before Tempers anger filled the void, "You don't think I know when your lying? You may be able to go up to anybody here and lie your ass off, but I wasn't trained to be fooled by the likes of you. And I don't care what your excuse is for lying to me, you shouldn't have done it."

Temper went about packing the two more items she needed and zipping up her bag.

"Oh, and another thing," she said, going to his side of the desk and pulling out the piece of paper he didn't really try and hide, "if you wanted to know something, you could just ask."

He took the paper as she shoved it into his chest. The next he heard was the slam of the door and then he just felt empty.

Snake Eyes looked to the piece of paper he stole from Hawk's office and contemplated going after her, but it wouldn't have done any good.

Nothing he had been doing for the past couple of weeks had been any good.
