Sonya was in America for six months and already was faced with many challenges. Sonya kept in contact with her ex-husband and he allowed her to communicate with him through email. Two months after Bayo left her,
Sonya reached out to her ex-husband asking to have help getting to America. Sonya was a school teacher and she was happy to relocate to America.
Sonya's ex-husband John, paid for his ex-wife and children to come to America they had to go through the process of becoming an immigrant. Sonya had to attend night classes at the college to certify as a teacher. Once Sonya arrived at the airport John met with Sonya. He explained everything to her and he explained you will be staying with my sister Natalie she has always liked you and she loves her niece and nephew. John gave her an envelope and said to spend the money wisely it was three thousand dollars. I will give you more in another two months. You need to get yourself together to receive checks in your name. Sonya said thank you John for everything you have done for me so far. John, sister Natalie babysit her niece & nephew while Sonya worked in the African hair shop and attended classes. Sonya selected two days out of the week she would do her hair, Sonya selected two classes she would take and her classes were twice a week. Sonya made sure her classes were on days that she did not go to the African shop. Sonya lived with Natalie through her pregnancy she had her room and Sonya's children slept in another room since Natalie's daughter was in college. And Natalie's two sons temporarily shared a room. After giving birth to two twin girls Sonya asked to be placed on birth control pills but, the doctor convinced her to be placed on birth control where she would be getting a shot in her arm and that would help her for the next two years. Sonya had to learn how to fend for herself. Sonya still had a little money that Bayo gave her and the money that John gave her, so she decided to open up a checking and savings account. She needed a four-bedroom home but, she could only at the moment afford a two-bedroom apartment. Natalie informed Sonya that she could stay as long as she needed to. So, Sonya stayed but looked for work and focused on getting in school once she got things settled with her children and working a job. Natalie didn't ask Sonya for money she explained that she needed to buy food and toiletries. Natalie took Sonya out in her vehicle to show her how to shop and what she needed to get. Natalie hired a young lady to babysit whenever she needed to. It was very cold outside the snow was very much on the ground. Natalie took her to a department store where they bought coats and she got a coat for herself and her children. Sonya realized she had to buy more accessories for her and her children. She bought food and toiletries also. Then Natalie stopped at a restaurant and Sonya tasted good fried chicken and she got some for her children. They made it home. Sonya was able to buy a few clothes for herself and her children as well. Buying gloves, hats, scarves, and boots were something else but, she did it.
