Chapter 5 - The Fever

May's POV

When Ash left my room after I rejected his offer to help me with Serena, I gave her the medicine and went to bed. I couldn't sleep because of what Ash said to Serena. I hadn't had anything else in mind but the pictures of Ash saying, "I see you're still wearing MY ribbon silly." and Serena saying, "It was a gift from someone who's really important to me." Over and over again. It was confusing. Could Ash be the one from Serena's stories? I mean he's capable of jumping from a tower. I must ask Serena as soon as she get better.

I didn't notice when I fell asleep, but I guess it was pretty late and it wasn't really good sleep to be honest.

"I ... I ... Iron tail. Aim to the ground. You're awesome Pikachu." Serena's voice woke me up. And I swear I heard her whispering Ash's name.

I glanced on the clock and it was around 4 AM. I tried to fall asleep again but no luck despite being tired, so I got up and went to check on Serena. I flinched back and almost screamed after I put my hand to her forehead. Geez that was hot! I panicked because I didn't know what to do. After few rounds around my room with head in my hands I got an idea. "I'll ask Ash to give her the medicine again." So I went to the guest room to wake up Ash.

Ash's POV

"Ash..."

"Ash..."

I was in the middle of a battle when the whole world begun shaking.

"C'mon Ketchum. Wake up!" I heard a girl's voice said.

It took me a while to realize that the battle was a dream, but the shaking and the voice was real.

"Pikachu use Thunderbolt on him." I recognized May's voice.

"No! I'm awake. Don't use Thunderbolt." I got my consciousness.

But it was late. I got a hit from Pikachu's Thunderbolt.

"Why?" I complained.

"Ash. Sorry that I'm waking you up." May apologized. "But it's Serena. She's burning up like crazy. Her fever is super high."

As soon as May said Serena's name I was up from my bed and on my way to May's room.

"That's not good." I said to May and Pikachu when I placed my hand on Serena's forehead.

"I ... I ... Iron tail. Now's the right time." Serena said.

"Hey that's my line you know." I said gently to her.

"We have to cool down that fever Ash. Do you still have that medicine?" May said sitting next to me.

"The medicine will take a time before helping her. But we must cool her as soon as possible." I said to May.

"What will we do Ash?" Said May yawning and I saw how she's trying to stay awake.

"I got an idea. Lend me your Glaceon and go to Drew's bed. I'll take care of her." I said and saw a relief in May's face.

May let her Glaceon out of the Pokeball, instructed the Eeveelution to listen to me and left for Max's room where Drew was sleeping.

I instructed May's Glaceon to use an Ice beam and aim on Pikachu's tail. When Pikachu had his tail frozen, he jumped on Serena's bed and put his tail on her forehead. When we cooled Serena's fever down, I gave her the medicine. And then, somehow, I fell asleep sitting on a chair next to Serena's bed with my head on the bed while hugging Glaceon. Pikachu fell asleep curled up on the pillow next to Serena's head.

Serena's POV

When I woke up I saw something yellow next to my head. I rubbed my eyes and saw a Pikachu sound asleep.

"What are you doing here Pikachu? And where am I anyway?" I thought out loud and accidentally woke up not only Pikachu.

"Welcome in May's house sleeping beauty." Remarkably familiar voice said. "And Pikachu's here with me as always." He added.

I thought it's a dream, so I asked Pikachu to hit me with his Thunderbolt, but Ash stopped him.

"I'm afraid this isn't a dream Serena." He said while grabbing Pikachu and preventing him from attacking me.

"I'm one of the researchers from Vermilion City and it was around 4 AM when May woke me up that you're burning in awful fever and brought me here to help you." Ash explained his presence.

"Where's May anyway?" I wondered after I looked around the room.

"After she brought me here and lent me her Glaceon, she went to Drew's bed because she was tired." Ash answered stroking the ice type which was still sleeping in his hands.

Ash's POV

We were quietly looking into each other's eyes for a moment when I realized how beautiful her eyes really are.

I put down still sleeping Glaceon, wondered why I'm thinking like this and ended the quiet. "You know. I missed you Serena."

I looked at her and she surprised me with hug.

"I missed you too Ash. I really did. I'm so happy to see you again." She said almost crying. I blushed and returned her the hug.

"So how are you feeling Serena? Are you any better?" I asked her when we separated our hug.

"I'm feeling just fine thanks to you." Serena smiled to me and I must have tried hard not to blush.

"Don't thank me. I would do anything for you." I said without even thinking. And to be honest I didn't know I'd ever say a sentence like this.

Pikachu gave me surprised look and Serena thanked me again when my
Rotom-phone started ringing which woke up Glaceon. I looked on the screen, apologized to the ice type and picked up the call.

"What's up mate?" I greeted my colleague in a friendly tone.

"Where're you bro? Where did you go?" Goh started with not so friendly tone as me.

"Chill out, I'm just next door. Why are you calling me anyway?" I responded.

"I just wanted to know where you are when I didn't find you in your bed." He said with calmer tone.

"And who do you think you are? My mother?" I laughed and ended the call.

"Who's calling you this early?" Serena asked me while petting the Fresh snow Pokemon.

I explained that it was only my research colleague Goh whose just next door and that he's pretty complicated person, but a great friend and it will be better to meet him then introducing like this.

Serena agreed and I offered my hand to help her stand up. She took my hand, but I miscalculated the strength and pulled her up a little bit harder then required so we ended up in a weird hug.

"This's familiar, don't you think?" She chuckled.

"Sorry. Habits dies hard." I smiled at her.

We shared another moment of looking into each other's eyes before I picked May's Glaceon and Pikachu jumped on Serena's shoulders.

We went to the guest room and I introduced Goh to Serena and vice versa. I was surprised when Goh said that he was watching The Master Class on TV with Chloe. And because I couldn't imagine Goh actually watching it, I laughed.

"Let me remind you that you were in stands on every of my performances Ash." Serena said.

"I know. But the image of Goh watching is just too much." I continued laughing. And Goh and Serena joined me too.

After a while chatting, me and Serena decided to wake up May and the others.

"Go in front. I'll get changed and I'll catch up with you." I said to Serena and she left the room.

I was changing my clothes when Goh spoke up.

"So that's her?" He asked me.

I simply nodded and went out.

I found Serena in front of May's room playing with Pikachu and Glaceon when I realized she don't know where Max's room is. After I asked her if she's feeling good and receiving a positive answer, we went to wake up May, Drew and Max.
