The Abandoned School - August 16, 20XX - 11:03pm - Part One

August 16, 20XX - 11:03pm

        I don't know why, because I don't believe in ghosts, but my idiot friends and I decided to go ghost hunting in an abandoned school. Did I mention we're in Japan? That's where all the messed-up shit happens.

        Leon put his arm around my shoulders. "Nikki, Oli, maybe Laurence is right." He looks at the deserted building looming above us. "Maybe this is a bad idea."

        Nicole rolls her eyes and turns around to face us. "Leo, you don't even believe in ghosts."

        "Nik, I don't believe in ghosts either," I say. The wind picked up for a moment and made me shiver. "But I do believe in fuckin' yokai."

        "From those weird urban legends?" Oli turns around and points the camera at us. "Ghosts are much more believable than yokai."

        I rub my arms on top of my sweatshirt to warm myself up, but to no avail. Nicole and Olivier are chatting away in front of us.

        "Encie, are you okay?" Leon asks me in a concerned voice.

        I lean in closer to him, hoping for warmth. "Yeah, I'm just cold."

        He laughs and says, "Do you want my jacket?"

        I shake my head. "Nah."

        When we arrive at the door of the building, Olivier tries to open it, but it won't budge.

        "Shit." He shakes the door handle in an effort to open it. "The building is locked."

        Nicole contemplates for a few seconds, and then snaps her fingers. "Maybe a window, or a back door is unlocked."

        "She's right." I walk over to Olivier and say, "Hand me the camera. Nik and I will check over on the left side of the building. You and Leo take the right, and we'll meet in the back."

        Everyone agrees to my impromptu plan, and we head in our separate ways.

        While we make our way around the side of the ominous building, Nicole shakes every door handle, while I check all the windows.

        "Anything yet?" She asks.

        "Nah."

        The building looks a lot creepier in the moonlight. It doesn't help that the eerie ambiance is through the roof.

        Around the school, there isn't much. There's a 24-hour convenience store, and a few houses, but that's it.

        A large gush of wind sweeps through the area, making me shiver. I look at Nicole and see that she also was affected by the wind.

        "Damn, that wind sucks." I rub my hands together and put them on my cheeks.

        "Yeah, I didn't know it was going to be so cold." She unties her fuzzy cardigan from her waist and puts it on.

        We get to the back of the school and see Leon and Olivier looking up at the school.

        "Did you guys find anything?" I yell to the boys over yonder.

        When we stand next to them, Olivier says, "There's an open window up there."

        I look up and see the open window. There are curtains blowing out of the window.

        Leon claps me on the back and says, "Encie, this seems like a job for you."

        "What the fuck do you want me to do, scale the building?" I look around the group and they're all looking at me expectantly. I sigh. "Give me the flashlight."
