Zayn

It feels like yesterday for Zayn when he was the last time in his home in Bradford. Fair enough it indeed has been yesterday when he was in it for the last time. So now he's standing in this massive-seeming, empty room that's supposed to be his. His last room wasn't quite as big as this one but he loved it, the band posters on the wall as well as all the pictures with his few but good friends back home, he had to leave behind.

He hears his mother coming up the stairs and then, seconds later, feels her arm wrapping around his neck from behind.

"I know you miss Bradford and your friends. I also know that it's not easy starting completely anew but I hope you know that there was no other way than moving."

"Yeah mom, I know that. Your firm closed all their offices in Bradford so we had to move to London because you're such an amazing person that your boss never wants you to leave the company. You told me that about a million times." Zayn says with a light chuckle, humour is the only thing these days that makes him feel better, slightly.

His mother had a hard time trying to find a job after the announcement her boss made about closing the offices in Bradford and the surrounding areas, because of the recent job shortages and younger people are more likely to get a job than older ones. So when her boss offered her a place at an office in London who would she have been to turn it down?

His mother lets out a laugh, "I'm pretty sure that I didn't use these exact words but yes I told you about it very often. That's because I want you to see what great of an opportunity this is, okay? I didn't lose my job, I even got promoted for moving here and your father got a job as well."

"I know that mom, I really do. I know that you have an amazing boss for him finding a way so you wouldn't have to lose your job. I just wished I wouldn't have had to leave my life behind for it.", he sighs.

"Yes baby, I know that's hard and I'm so sorry that it has to be that way but you could see that as a chance to make a new beginning, make new friends maybe. And that doesn't have to mean you have to forget about your old friends. You can meet up with them in your holidays and some weekends. Four hours are not the end of the world.", she steps in front of her son, pulling his chin up just enough for him to look into her eyes. Then she smiles, a warm motherly smile, and hugs Zayn.

After pulling away she puts her hand on Zayn's shoulder to say, "Besides, maybe you'll meet some cute boys at school. I wouldn't mind you bringing a nice young man home."

"Oh my god mom, I do not want to talk about that, like at all, okay? Just, no." he groans. His mom just shakes her head, letting go of her son and starts laughing. "Okay, okay I'm leaving. Oh but one more thing, dinner's ready in a few. And you should start unpacking, you have to go to school on Monday so you should get most of it done on the weekend."

"Okay, love you."

"Love you." with those words she exits the room, closing the door behind her.

Zayn lets a breath out the second he hears the door shut, then he takes a look at the bags and suitcases scattered across the room. He didn't even realize that he has been staring at an empty, white wall for the main time he's been here, so he moves towards his luggage, sighing. He also never realized how many things he actually had, now he regrets not having unpacked sooner.

Two hours later, after a long, extensive dinner, Zayn returns to his room, coming across the window deciding to take a look.

The neighbourhood is absolutely gorgeous. There are countless trees and bushes as well as various flowers around the house of the neighbours living just across the street. Speaking of which, there's a boy he can see through the window of it opposite his own and as if on cue the other boy turns around, shooting him a big smile. Zayn doesn't want to seem unpolite so he waves and shoots the other a shy, awkward smile before running off towards his bed as fast as he could.

Zayn has trouble falling asleep that night, thinking about the awkward semi-encounter with the boy next door and hoping he won't have to see him at school next week, or at all. He wishes to spare himself that kind of humiliation.
