Vanessa's POV

Friday. The day everyone looks forward to. We spend our lives anticipating moments, days, events, even emotions, rather than living our days. If you have a party in two weeks that you’re excited about, why do you spend the next two weeks thinking about how great that single day will be, instead of making these two weeks equally as great too? And the worst is when you sit around doing absolutely nothing as you wait for this one great thing to happen that’s supposed to incredibly change your life, yet you don’t do anything about it. You don’t work for it. You trick yourself into believing that it will just magically happen. Whether it’s becoming famous, or a successful CEO, or even finding the one person you will love with every fiber of your being. You’re literally throwing out time. And before you know it, it’s too late.

It’s all sad and pathetic. It’s in our stupid human nature.

And today is Friday. The day I get to present my latest idea for a poster ad at my firm, Prell Ads. We are the biggest advertising company in all of North America, the main location being in New York City, which is where I work. Anyways, I’ve been working very hard on this project. It’s a massive step for me, because this is my big chance to get promoted. I’ve worked on it day and night for the past month. I’ve skipped multiple parties and club nights for this. And today, I finally get to see if my hard work had paid off.

I turn my alarm off and quickly change into a pair of jeans, a tank top, and a cardigan. Where I work, the only time you have to dress up in business attire is the day of your interview or if there’s a big meeting. It’s either that, or you don’t work on my floor. My floor is where all the innovators work. We are the master minds. We come up with the advertisement, present our ideas, and see if they’ll like it or not. I guess they want us to be comfortable while working.

As I continue to get ready, nervousness takes over my body and I immediately take deep breaths. Everything will be okay, they will love it. Once I’m done applying make-up, brushing my hair and putting my shoes on, I turn around to take one last glance at my one bedroom apartment before shutting the door and making my way down the hallway to the old rickety stairs.

When I’m out the building, I notice that Jimmy – a dirty blond, tall, broad, and incredibly kind streets performer – already setting up for the morning crowd. He pulls his guitar out of its case before looking up and greeting me, “oh look; it’s the new editor”

“Not yet,” I say

“You’re gonna kill it,” he gives me an encouraging smile “I know you will”

“Thanks Jimmy,” I reply “It’s a big day for me today”

“I know it is, which is why you’ll join me and the gang for a drink today. It’s been weeks since you last did anything fun”

I laugh “I know, I know. And I promise I will tonight” then I turn around to see my bus coming “I’ll see you later!” I shout as I run to catch my bus

As soon as I hop on the crowded vehicle, nerves take over my body again. So I decide to plug my head phones in for distraction. I listen to one of my favourite bands, The 1975, and watch the city’s filled up sidewalks. Business people are rushing up and down the streets, everyone exhausted of the past 4 days as they count down the minutes of the last day of the week.

After roughly 15 minutes, the bus reaches my stop. I hope out and rush into the massive building. The smell of hot breakfast from the mini built in coffee shop fills my senses. My stomach grumbles in reaction. I’ve been too busy thinking about today that I forgot to eat breakfast. So I make a quick stop and order a croissant along with a small carton of chocolate milk. Due to my hunger, I quickly down the two before I even reach my office.
