Vanessa's POV
The rest of the day went by quickly, but that doesn't mean it wasn't filling me with annoyance and jealousy. I can’t believe I’m jealous over this guy that I’d just met and has countless attitude changes every five minutes.
While I forced myself to do work, Harry and Amy laughed and joked. He threw papers at her and she giggled and twirled her hair. I’ve never seen Amy so flirtatious in the past 3 years that I’ve known her.
It was horrifying.
Due to my stupid mind being so fucking distracted with the two, I had to take home my work, to finish up. And I didn’t complete everything until it was well beyond 10 at night. However, I'm very curious as to why I haven’t heard a word from Harry. The apartment has been extremely quiet ever since I told him I had work to do.
I go out to the living room, and of course, he’s reading. That makes a lot of sense now.
“Reading?” I break the silence
He looks up and I notice he has reading glasses on, an adorable sight to be honest, “Hey, you’re done?” he asks
I nod, and sit down on the other end of the couch, “Did you enjoy your first day? I’m sure it’s better than back in London” I tease
He chuckles and sits up while putting his glasses away and placing a bookmark in his book “I don’t know about that”
I roll my eyes, “It’s okay, you don’t have to admit it. I know the truth”
I wasn't really thinking of Amy being a factor of his enjoyment, but I know it was.
I'm not bringing it up, though.
“Why did you have to work after?” he changes the subject
“I, uh, I just had some extra stuff to do” I half lie. Yes, most of my attention was on him and my best friend, but I also had to fill up some extra files about Harry.
He nods and lifts his feet up on couch so that he’s lying down, “Is there anything you want to say or should I go back to reading?”
“Yeah, I was going to watch some shows” I tell him, grabbing the remote, only to hear him groan
“That’s so boring. You’re so boring,” he complains
I’m not even amused at this point by his statement, “I swear, that if I had a dollar for every time you said that, I wouldn’t need the job I have”
“Jeez, calm down. I’ve only said it like 10 times, so you wouldn’t have much” he grins
I fight the urge to smile and keep my eyes trained on the blank screen, “At least I’m not reading that stupid book”
“First of all, you don’t even what book I’m reading. And secondly, reading helps me relax and it’s actually a known fact that only the intelligent read, so…” his attempt at offending me barely works
“I don’t have to read to be smarter than you,” I fire back and turn the TV on, ending the conversation.
I flick through the channels and only moments later, Harry casually speaks up, “So, tell me about your friend Amy,”
I snap my head to face him; he immediately has my attention, “Why?”
“I just…I don’t know. Is she single?”
Yes, his tone is cautious, but he’s so blunt and I’m not even going to lie about the annoyance that rakes through me. How did she manage to sink her perfect nails into him so quickly?
