Iris was sound asleep next to me on the plane.Looking at my daughter reminded me so much of James she looked identical to him with his blonde hair and soft light green eyes. I had chosen her name on the request of Justin he loved Iris's. Any special occasion he would always bring them home. He would of been so proud of her she is so smart and extremely talkative and super funny. She definitely got that from her papa.I couldn't help but worry if she would be happy in Virginia away from her friends and everything she has ever known but she did seem supper excited to go live with her Aunty Ember that she didn't care about leaving Texas at all. We hosted a good bye party for her and her friends before the move but I know she was still going to miss them. I decided that I might as well make this flight a productive one so i took out my notebook and started going over all my to do list that needed to be done as soon as soon as I got to Virginia. Just then i remembered I had to send an email to our neighbor so he could pick up my car from the airport and take it to the mover company so they can ship it to Virginia. I was so lost in track that I didn't even hear the flight attendant talking to me.
"Ma'am, ma'am..". She kept repeating. I hurriedly took out my ear phones.
"I'm sorry?" I asked.
"Ma'am were 30 minutes away from our destination could you please start to get ready to exit the plane." She responded.
"Yes ma'am, thank you". As soon as she turned around I started to put my laptop and phone and everything else I had taken out into my Carrion.
When all of that was ready I woke up Iris. "Iris honey we're almost..." but before I could finish my sentence Iris was already jumping with excitement.
"We're here already"
"Yes, now get your things ready so we can exit the plane".
Two hours later, passed security, luggage in hands and catching a cab we finally made it out of the airport on our way to Embers house. Ember is such a power house of a woman that is the best way to describe her she is so careered focus she has never gotten married or had any serious relationships that I know of. She has short dark hair and fair skin just like Iris's. She has light brown eyes and is extremely smart. Not only does she own the biggest realtor company in Virginia she also had other side jobs as well. We had met in college so many years ago and that is how I met James as well. We where so close back then. Hopefully the move can help me heal from the wound that James left and I can finally move on. It has been 8 years since he passed. And it still felt like he just left us yesterday.
The car came to a sudden stop and as I looked out the window I saw Embers house. It was a beautiful house it had that Farm house style that made you feel right at home. When we got out of the car we saw Ember running out of her house with arms wide open. When she reached us I couldn't help but brake down. It felt so good to be here to finally be able to let it all out. The cab guy took out our luggage and left.
"My girls! I'm so happy you guys are here, we're going to have so much fun." Ember said.
After what seemed hours of unpacking, getting some food and Ember showing us around the house it was finally time to go to sleep.
"Well girls, this rooms are joined by a jack and Jill so I think this will be perfect for you guys." She then went to the closet and took out extra blankets. After she left I took a long shower letting the hot water hit my skin.
"Mom can you not waste all the warm water, I want to shower as well." Iris said knocking on the bathroom door.
"I'm almost out Iris." I said. When i got out Iris had fallen asleep, I guess the plane ride had taken a toll on her. I went over to her and covered her up. I then slowly garbed a pair of pajamas put them on and walk outside looking for Ember. She was sitting outside of her house in this big beautiful gazebo.
"I just wanted to say thank you, again..." she must of been lost in track because she didn't even flinch.
"Ember..?" I tried again.
"huh?.. Oh hey Poppy I thought you girls had turn in already?" She said motioning me over to the bench.
"Anyways It's the least I can do after you took so much care of.. um.. James." She said looking away from me."
"I know its still so painful, but Ember I came here for a new start, I need to move on with my life so I could give Iris a chance at her future. This past eight years I have done nothing but mopped around and I can't do that anymore".
"I understand and that's why I was so glad when you decided to join me here. First thing tomorrow we will start your new life here in Virginia. Oh I actually forgot to mention that we're visiting this National Park called Shenandoah tomorrow, I think it'll be a fun way to start your new life here. I booked us a room there for a night. Then in the morning we can go horse ridding or maybe even hiking. What do you think?
"Wow that sounds amazing Ember you know how much I love the woods and nature."
And with that we seemed to clear the air. We spend hours talking that night, remembering old stories and talking about James and how hard it had been those last couple of months. When I couldn't hold my eyes open anymore we decided to go in and get some sleep.
