Six years had passed. Father's work life has smoothened out. It was now optional for him to sit in on the general proceedings. He was always happy to do work but over time it got boring. The more interesting proceedings were going on at the same time on higher floors. This was revealed to him and the other junior council members in their second year.

Now he had the privilege of participating in more substantive matters and not just sitting in for hearings. His role has become much more enjoyable. Though he often wondered if he could still move up. What kind of work would be involved in even higher levels of government?

He was now a senior council member and had the power to veto simple majorities in council proceedings. There was much more politicking going on and being in the know about the issues that were going to be heard and deliberated granted one a level of privilege; as there was an incentive to voting in the majority. The more often one was able to vote correctly the higher one rose on the council. The council members had the opportunity then to become mayors, governors, and senators.

Father wasn't the most popular member, but he knew almost everyone in the council and had a pretty good feel for which way most would vote based on his understanding of them. Voting based on reading the room was a skill that he has developed in being part of the council. He no longer voted based on beliefs solely, he voted with the political in mind.

Going home to a smaller nest he found more and more of his life being his work rather than his home. He didn't think about it that much, however. He still liked to spend time with his family but since there's less of them in the house, as Grace and Brad both live elsewhere now, his home life was less active. He found it harder and harder to connect with Grant the older he got. His projects only got more computerized over the years.

Even though he lived in a technologically integrated society he found himself being more of a primitivist. He confined his technology use to his smartphone that is three years behind. Unlike others in the council he did not have a sizable digital footprint. He was on Facebook and Twitter but rarely spoke out. There weren't many issues that was important to him. He would share posts about ending world hunger and others akin to it but other than that nothing.

Today was a special day. It was their wedding anniversary and it was also the night of another government soiree. As they're used to by now, they left Grant alone at home and left the party at around midnight.

The places were always lavishly decorated. The food always scrumptious. It was almost tedious. But Father had found that it was more enjoyable to stick close to his circle; the other senior councilors, while Mother gallivanted. She often found herself in terse conversations and sought to leave them as quickly as she arrived. But tonight, they decided to stay together. It was their anniversary after all. They decided they would go up the upper floors and tickle their fancies in a more adult way.

As soon as they reached the fourth floor there was debauchery all around. The night was headed in that direction, much like the second government party they went to. The pair aren't judging of it, but they found such public displays of sexuality to be a bit off-putting. This was the first time since that last time that they explored the upper floors. But as they were feeling a little adventurous, they simply watched what the others were doing. There were some who chose to dance in their underwear and others are outright copulating in plain view.

You could see, hear...smell, their play. It was jarring to say the least. They have not gotten used to it. But, feeling frisky they decided to find a room, this time securing it for themselves.

"I don't know why we haven't gone up here since then," Mother said.

"You looked white as a sheet the last time, when we ended up being the starting pulse of what became an orgy," Father replied.
