I had a flower.
And it was beautiful,
But not unique.
There could have been thousands
of millions of others just like it,
And there probably were
But I had that flower.
And it had me.
It sat there,
And its own silent way,
It listened to me.
I had a flower.
And when I was sad
my flower,
It was a small ray of sunshine
In my cloudy life.
A tiny smile
In a sea of frown.
A light in a pitch black room.
I had a flower.
When I was falling into the void of despair
A bottomless hole, never ending.
It was a rope,
Thick and sturdy.
Tied around my waist,
Pulling me back into the real world,
The jolt that woke me up
And scared off the nightmares.
A secret smile, just for me,
An escape from reality.
I had a flower.
And it was there for me.
Through tears and laughs,
Smiles and frowns,
Hard times and easy
With it's elegant solferino petals,
and little black freckles,
Smiling at me,
Comforting me,
Saying 'it's okay',
'You'll be alright',
'You'll get through this',
'I believe in you'.
I had a flower.
That was always there for me.
Until one day
It wasn't.
I had a flower.
But now I don't.
Because now my flower doesn't belong to me.
I don't get to have it anymore.
It's petals fell,
And its leaves shriveled up,
And the colors faded,
And I had to say goodbye.
I had a flower.
