Summary: Fugo, a teen with a short temper, goes on a vacation with his parents to a dusty, old, rumored to be haunted hotel somewhere in the mountains. He doesn't want to be there, he'd rather be anywhere else but the crusty lobby with the smelly carpet, but here he was forced to go. While wandering the halls late at night because he couldn't sleep, Fugo stumbles upon a very bizarre sight...

__________

The car arrived early in the morning around 8 a.m., Fugo's family had been driving for four and a half days, stopping every night at a motel in order to get here. Today was the final stop until they left, at The Stanley Hotel. This was supposed to be a gift for Fugo's sixteenth birthday, which was today, but the white-haired boy scoffed at the idea of it all. He didn't like celebrating his birthday, and he didn't like his parents even more. Still, they dragged him to this rundown haunted house. Fugo did some research before the trip and found that this hotel had a long-running history with the paranormal.

While Fugo's bags were getting taken to his room, he decided to wander around for a little bit. From his research, he also learned that the hotel was once a very high class and pristine place, but time had not done this building any favors. There were pictures lining the halls, old pictures of parties and people in this hotel. The pictures made Fugo feel uneasy upon seeing the clothes, he could easily tell the time period. Everyone in these pictures were dead.

Walking further into the building, he began to hear music, it was very soft and far away. With nothing better to do, Fugo decided to follow the sound. He carefully listened, noticing when it got louder or softer to make sure he was going the right way. He rounded a corner and saw the double doors to what he assumed was the ballroom, the big spacious room reserved for parties or weddings, the music was coming from inside there. Just as Fugo was reaching for the doorknob, a yell from across the hotel started him and pulled his attention away.

His dad was calling him, telling him to get to their rooms to change. Fugo sighed in annoyance, but yelled back he'd be there in a minute. Looking back at the double doors, Fugo noticed that the music had stopped, not a sound came from the room now. Suddenly, he remembered how this hotel had a reputation for being haunted. An eerie feeling crept up Fugo's back, and he decided to get to his room now, leaving behind the ballroom.

Fugo had turned sixteen today, so his parents had a lot planned. Once he was dressed, the white-haired boy was dragged along to all sorts of different activities, all of which he didn't enjoy. The cake was nice though, it had strawberries in it with frosting, really the only good thing in Fugo's day. After all that, nightfall came and Fugo was getting ready to sleep, he was looking forward to that. He and his parents had separate rooms, he valued his privacy and he would be stuck here for another three days, but at least he could find comfort in sleep...

He couldn't find comfort in sleep.

Fugo tossed and turned multiple times, each position more uncomfortable than the last. After a few more minutes of this, Fugo threw his pillow at the wall in frustration. Checking the time, it was 11:57, maybe he just needed a drink? Fugo quietly crept out of his bed, his parent's room was right next to his, so he didn't want them asking why he was still up. He put on his slippers and walked out into the hallway, no one else was up or roaming about except him. After getting some water in a paper cup from the kitchen, Fugo began wandering around again, maybe the walk would make him tired.

He wasn't really paying attention to where he was going, but just walking wherever he felt like. A loud gong came from down the hall, it was a clock letting anyone who heard know that it was midnight. Suddenly, Fugo heard the music again, the same music that sounded so far off before, it sounded very close now. Fugo followed the sound once more only to be brought back to the double doors of the ballroom. Fugo wasn't superstitious, okay maybe he was a little, but he knew this was bizarre.
