War in the Garden

Marcus

(Marcus lays in a large bed throwing a Hacky sack up toward the ceiling then catching it.)

Marcus: (whistling)

Maid: Marcus, your mother would like to see you in the yard.

Marcus: Coming.

(He walks out back to the yard where there are rows of poppies, of all different colors, and his mother standing, watching them as they blow In the wind.)

Marcus: You called mother?

Queen Poppy: Don't the flowers look lovely today?

Marcus: Yes, they look beautiful!

Queen Poppy: Soon, all this will be yours to rule.

Marcus: Keep the land peaceful, don't start any unnecessary wars, don't forget to water the flowers, I know.

Queen Poppy: Hey (looking him in the eyes) but make sure you enjoy doing it. You may be forced into this life, but do it your way. You will only be miserable if you make the work feel unbearable. Look on the bright side and have fun with it. You'll do amazing.

Marcus: Thanks mom.

Queen Poppy: You're welcome. Now go to your room. I have a feeling you'll get a visitor soon.

(She starts walking away.)

Marcus: (Internally) My mom has precognitions, so it's helpful for work, but when she's your mom, it's impossible to do almost anything without getting caught. But today, she seemed off. I have a feeling something's going down and I won't be able to nap though it.

(Flops on bed.)

Marcus: Ugh.

(Door creaks.)

Cash: (impersonating a british man) Good afternoon Master Marcus. I have arrived with your daily bread.

Marcus: (sitting up) Why do you steal from your own people you idiot? You're rich.

Cash: (tossing over a loaf) Cause it's fun! They can't catch up with me!

Marcus: You're so stupid.

Cash: I know. Hey, is something wrong? You look concerned.

Marcus: My mom seems off today...

Cash: And you think something bad is going to happen?

Marcus: Yup. (internally) I met Cash twelve years ago. I was taking a nap in the garden and all of a sudden, I'm being shaken awake as he screams "please don't be dead!!" And then he just started coming over, so we became friends.

Maid: Caston, your mother needs you home, and Marcus, your mother wants you to see her.

Both: Aw, ok.

Cash: Well, bye Marcus.

Marcus: See you later.

(Marcus walks down to the dining room where his mother sits with a letter, seeming to be in distress.)

Marcus: Yes mother.

Queen Poppy: Marcus, come sit with me. We just received a letter from the Rose Kingdom.

Marcus: And it's not good news.

Queen Poppy: I'm afraid so. I think that Princess Willow from the Lily Kingdom has overthrown her father, and has plans to overthrow us all.

Marcus: Ok, well, the seven kingdoms versus one kingdom will just put out more guards and send out more troops.

Queen Poppy: Others have tried so many times that we have decided that the only ones who can stop her are people like her.

Marcus: Wait, what?

Queen Poppy: You and Cash will meet up with four other teens from the other kingdoms in order to stop her tyranny.

Marcus: Why don't we get a say in this?

Queen Poppy: Cause it's an important matter and is the only option we have.

Marcus: To send off your kids?

Queen Poppy: This isn't easy for any of us!

Marcus: I'm sorry mother.

Queen Poppy: No, I'm sorry. I know I should have warned you this morning, and I know you knew something was off. I just don't want something to happen to you.

Marcus: I know mom. I'll go get ready

(Marcus walked up to his room, packed a bag, and waved goodbye to his mom as he walks away with Cash.)

Cash: Your mom seems so strong. Mine was bawling as we left.

Marcus: Yeah, I know. She believes in us so there's no need to cry.

(He says as Cash gets stuck in a tree trying to grab an apple.)

Marcus: Well, she believes in me.

Cash: Huh?

(He falls out of the tree and holds up an apple.)

Cash: Got it!

Marcus: Get up idiot! We have to hurry and get there!

Cash: Well that won't be a problem for me!

(He runs there and comes back)

Marcus: You couldn't have picked me up and brought me with you? We would have already been there by now!

Cash: But walking makes for a much better adventure!

Marcus: Fine, let's go.
