"We thank you for choosing Emirates and we hope you enjoyed the flight with us. We look
forward to serving you again, soon. Thank you and good morning!"The 12-hour flight from Canada to Ghana had finally come to an end and if anyone was more
than excited to be back on the motherland, it was Emily. Ever since the law firm he worked for experienced setbacks that put it on the verge of collapsing, due to the current Managing Partner's incompetence, Mr. Animbra had taken the bold decision to start his own law firm in his homeland, Ghana, after purchasing a house at Sunken Deeps, a suburb of Okun. This meant a great deal to each member of the family as it was a whole new beginning for each of them.
Mrs. Animbra had landed a job in an arts school; Emily, their daughter, was enthusiastic about
starting her new school after summer and making new friends, as well as learning about a culture she had been so far away from; and Jerome, her older brother, was looking forward to meeting the Ghanaian girls he had heard so much about. This new beginning was one they had been so excited about and they were looking forward to seeing how it would turn out.Upon reaching the terminal, they were greeted by Mr. Animbra's father, Gramps, who had
been awaiting their arrival. The older Mr. Animbra waved at the arriving family, moving to give them a hug."Kwadwo! Selma! Atuu. Welcome, welcome. How was your flight?"
"Tiring, but it was worth it. It's good to be back home after all these years." Selma replied, returning his hug.
""It's good to have you back, too. We missed you all so much." He turned his attention to Emily
and Jerome."Oh, who are these lovely angels I see before me? Could these be Jerome and Emily? I can see you still have the good looks you got from your mother and your grandparents because they definitely skipped your father." He gave the children a wink, smiling as they giggled and looked at their dad.
"I'm right here!" Kwadwo whined playfully and pretended to pout, making the children laugh
the more."Alright, let's get you guys out of here and into some beds. Your mother has promised to
prepare your favourite breakfast for your arrival." Gramps grabbed the trolley and headed to his pick-up truck."Oh, yes! I missed her cooking so much." Selma smiled. "Now that we're finally settling here, I can find out how she makes all those delicious dishes."
"Another reason to be happy that we came home." The younger Mr. Animbra sang, following his father and family to the truck.
On their way home, they made small talk about how much the country had changed and how
much development was going on. Emily's excitement, which had kept her up for most of the trip, was finally giving way to tiredness but she was determined to stay awake until they arrived. The last time they were in the town, she had sworn to explore every bit of it and map it out, and now that they were staying permanently, she was going to do just that."Here we are." Gramps parked in his compound and honked once. His wife came out to
welcome the family, giving them hugs and commenting on their growth."The last time you were here you were so small I could put you in my handbag, now look how big you've grown." Granny teased, them while pinching their cheeks. "Leave Gramps to bring in the bags. Come, let me show you to your new rooms. I know you're a big boy and girl now, so you two no longer need to share a room."
When she flopped on the bed after Gramps brought her bags in, she couldn't help smiling,
happy to be in Ghana once again. She was reliving her memories of the other times they had been here when she slept off.It was long past sunrise when she woke up. A quick look at her phone told her it was 08:00am.
She pulled out some clothes from her suitcase, took a bath in the adjoining bathroom and went
out into the living room where her parents were. Her mum was seated in the couch, munching on a cookie, and her dad was pacing about with his phone to his ear.
