A distant struggle

Chapter 1 A new beggining

I wake up with my alarm clock blaring next to me, 6:00 a.m. My warm bed beckons me to sleep but adrenaline rushes through me when I remember what the alarm is going off for. I slam my hand down on the alarm clock, kick off my covers and leap to my closet. Where my freshly straightened school uniform is hung. Wow it's my first day at Stone Ridge high I thought, as I slip out of my nightwear and into the uniform. 20 minutes of brushing out my hair and freshening up my looks and I walk downstairs and start opening my freezer to get waffles out but I see a cream cheese bagel on the counter with a note next to it. "Made this for you have a good day at school" -Sam I glance up at the coffee maker and smile at the sight of freshly brewed coffee. I grab a mug out of a cabinet and pour the coffee in the mug. I ended up adding a gallon of creamer and a cup of sugar to satisfy my taste for sweetness. I eat most of my bagel and drink some of my coffee before grabbing my lunch out of the fridge and put it in my bag. I glance up at the clock on the stove and nearly choke on my bagel 6:30 great now I was gonna miss the bus. I face palm myself and chug my coffee down. I run out the front door "UG" I go back inside to take my medicine for a bone marrow disorder. I swallow down the pills and run out the front door with my bag slung over one shoulder.

I get to my bus stop and patiently wait. Then I flip my hand held mirror out and fix my hair from the unexpected sprint to the bus stop. My heart rate decreases and I calm down a bit. I waited for the bus for about six minutes until it finally arrived.

The doors swing open and I went up the steps to reveal nearly 20 girls sitting in their seats looking at me and whispering. I quickly chose a seat and put my earbuds in . I looked out the window and listened to my music. But I felt a tap on my right shoulder. I take my earbuds out and turned around to see a pair of Purple eyes.

"Hi I am Alexia"

I could barely hear her but I responded.

"I am Scarlette nice to meet you did you need anything"?

A few awkward went by till she spoke.

"Do you wanna be friends"

I smiled

"Yea".

I couldn't tell if she was smiling because her face was behind the seat but I was happy I could try to be friends with someone. she leaned back and pulled her grey beanie off to reveal a head of platinum blonde hair.

"Woah"

"What is it is there something wrong with my hair"

She started pulling the beanie back on.

"No your hair it's amazing"!

She was blushing and looked out the window for a bit.

"Hey Scarlette"

"Hm oh sorry I was spacing out"

I rub the back of my neck nervously.

"You remember this is an all girl school right Scarlette"

I look out the window and and eternally scream at myself for not paying attention when we where reviewing the school.

"No I just knew about the uniforms"

A moment of silence drifts over our conversation until Alexia touches my wrist. I flinch away but then roll up my sleeve.

"What's that mark"

"I don't know I have always had it"

I lied I know exactly how I got it and how much it hurt. my father had branded me when I ran away from home with a curved hot poking stick you put in the fire to move logs around. But instead of putting it in the fire place for a bit he made it a glowing orange color and grabbed my arm and kept it on my skin. And nobody knew about it I was told to never tell anyone about when I was beaten and abused or else they would kill my cat.

I smile weakly and pull my sleeve back up.

"Hiya Alexa"

A girl with long red hair plops down next to Alexia and kisses her on the cheek. Alexia blushes madly and hides her face behind her hands.

"Oi Alexa who is this"

She nods towards me and nudges Alexia.

"She is the new student"

I hear Alexia murmur behind her hands.

"And if you where wondering yes she is mine".

The head head wraps her arm around Alexia's neck and she tenses up.

"Shame she's cute"

"Yea she is "

the read head smokes smugly

"yea she is my cute little Alexa".

We bolth laugh as Alexia blushes fiercely behind her hands.

"My names Kyoko"

she holds her hand I over the seat.

"Scarlette"

I shake hands with her and smile.
"I do have a quick question if you don't mind unless you want to keep it private".

"It depends"

I lean into Kyoko's ear and whisper

"Have you and Alexia kissed on the lips, sorry if I am prying".

I lean back and see a cocky grin on Kyoko's face.

"Ask Alexia"
She snickers and taps Alexia on the shoulder.

"Hmm Kyoko what is it"
Alexia looks into Kyoko's eyes.

"Tell her the awnser to the question"
Kyoko nods towards me.
Kyoko whispers into Alexia's ear and her entire face turns red .

"Ha ha ha does that awnser your question Scarlette"?

We bolth chuckle as Alexia madly blushes behind her hands.

"Anyway you need to watch out for this girl who has blonde hair and is very popular and loves to go after new girls and ruin their reputation".

"What's her name"

Kyoko looks around and comes close to my ear.

"Krystal"

I raise my eyebrow and nod and Kyoko leans back. Alexia is still madly blushing behind her face.

"Come on Alexia"

Kyoko leans near Alexia's ear and whispers something to her. Kyoko then lifts up Alexia's chin and kisses her on the nose. Alexia just stares at Kyoko and says nothing until Alexia grabs Kyoko's jaw and smashes their lips together.
I turn around blushing and put my earbuds back in. I feel a knee or Kyoko or Alexia pushing into the back of my seat. I pause my music and take an earbud out.

"Mmmmm"

I hear someone and the sound of shuffling. I snicker and turn my music back on and look out the window. we stop at a few more stops until we reach Stone Ridge High.

"Hey guys you b-"
I turn around and see Alexia's head resting on Kyoko's shoulder snuggled up to her body.

"Heh heh is it almost school yet"
I nod and look at Alexia who has a sleepy look in her eyes.

"You might wanna check on yourselves"
I hand over my hand held mirror to Kyoko.

"Why did you wall asleep all weird Alexa you messed up my pony tail".

Alexia giggled and looked at me

"Sorry you had to see that"
I shrug
"I don't care it's not like you were having a hardcore make out session".

I look out the window and have a flashback of my first girlfriend. She brought me so much pain and sadness.

"Hey Scarlette you okay your crying"
Kyoko leans over the seat.

"Yea I am fine"
I wipe a tear from the corner of my eye and pick up my bag. I look ahead and clench my fists

"This is a new beginning"
I think to myself.
