It was nearly 11 p.m., Tom walked silently through the corridors in the library direction, as he had done almost every night he came to Hogwarts. He entered the library, heading straight to the Restricted Section where he started gazing his eyes through the books.
Tom got closer to the bookshelves, seeing one book that caught his attention.
Before he could take the book from it's place in the bookshelf, Tom heard footsteps.
The sound begin to get closer, his first thought was running away but he didn't have time so he stood in his place thinking of an excuse for being up.
A figure appeared in front of him with a Lumos spell comic from the wand, revealing a girl that Tom instantly recognized.
"Oh god, Riddle you scared the hell out of me" Jean said quietly getting closer "I thought you were a bloody teacher"
"Excuse me but what are you doing here?" Tom whispered shouted to the girl.
"I'm in a library, so I don't know maybe something to do with books" Jean said sarcastically and rolled her eyes.
"It's past night time, so if you're not aware you're breaking the rules by being up."
"You're one to talk, you're also up"
"For your information, I'm a prefect so I have an excuse, unlike you"
"Yeah sure, and by the way what's your excuse for trying to use a Legilimancy spell on me during dinner?" Jean raised her eyebrow to the boy.
Tom stared at the girl not knowing what to answer.
"Answer me Riddle" Jean demand not so quietly anymore.
"As much as I would like to continue our delightful conversation Miss Isbell, I'm afraid I have to leave"
Tom started to walk away but was immediately stopped by Jean grabbing his arm making him face her again.
"How do you know my name?"
"I have my methods" Tom smirked "but you're quite hard to get information as I could see during dinner"
"I like to be a mystery" Jean smirked back and walked away leaving Tom alone in the library.
~ The Next Day ~
Jean was running in the corridors, she was late for her last class of the day, Potions.
She got distracted while practicing Quidditch with Noah, that's why she was late for class.
Professor Slughorn liked her and was getting mad for sure, but Jean didn't want to give a very bad impression since it was the last year at Hogwarts.
Finally she got to the door and quickly got in class. The students talked with each other and didn't notice her presence.
"Miss Isbell" Professor Slughorn greeted the student happily "You came in just in time! We were about to start making a potion in pairs"
The Professor looked around the room noticing one free spot.
"There you can sit with Mr. Riddle, I'm sure you two will get along!"
Tom looked at the girl with annoyance. She started walking getting closer to her seat, swearing to herself.
"Hey" she mumbled while sitting in the chair next to Tom.
He didn't respond and instead quickly got up getting the ingredients to the potion, returning after a few minutes.
"Y'know it's rude to ignore people, right?" Jean said annoyingly.
"I would like to concentrate on this work so I would appreciate if you stopped talking" Tom answered without looking at her.
"Asshole" Jean mumbled and rolled her eyes.
After some time, the lesson was nearly ending and Tom was finishing the potion.
"You forgot one ingredient" Jean came closer to the cauldron.
"No I didn't, it's done" Tom said coldly to the girl.
"Trust me, it's not you forgot one" she grabbed the missing ingredient and placed it on the cauldron.
Tom looked at the potion realizing he did forgot that ingredient and gave the girl a death glare.
"You're welcome" she winked at him.
The Professor started availing the potions, starting with the two students. He looked at the cauldron attentively.
"It's perfect!" Slughorn said with excitement "I'm very proud of both of you"
Jean smiled proudly at the Professor, while Tom gave him a fake small smile.
The class was over now and the students were leaving the room, Tom being the last one about to leave.
"Mr. Riddle could I speak with you for a moment?" Slughorn said while sitting in his chair.
"Yes, of course" Tom walked quickly to the Professor's secretary. "What did you wanted to tell me, sir?"
"As I said earlier, your potion with Miss Isbell was very good, which is something I already expected from you" Tom smirked at his professor's words.
"But not particularly from Miss Isbell, you see Tom, Jean is a very clever girl but unfortunately she doesn't show it much, though when she was pairing with you it seemed like it made her more committed with the work"
"What do you mean, Professor?"
"I was wondering if you didn't mind maybe giving her some help with this subject"
"Sir, do you mean giving her private lessons?" The professor simply nodded.
Tom instantly thought of refusing, he didn't want to teach some girl. But then he realized that this could be a way of helping him become even more beloved by the teachers, and of gaining more their trust.
"Will you consider doing it Tom?" Slughorn asked.
"I'll do it Professor" Tom answered quickly.
"Wonderful! I knew I could count on you Tom" the Professor smiled at his student "Well that was all, you can leave now"
Tom left the room thinking about how it would be giving private lessons to this girl. He needed to find her and inform her of what their professor asked him to do.
Maybe this would be a way of getting closer to her and helping him get another follower.
For what Tom had noticed, she seemed quite strange and different to him, although he couldn't tell why, which made him think she could be useful in the future somehow.
