A/N: This is set after the war (if you couldn't tell) and Harry has had many awards handed to him. Through all of this, Draco still thinks that he wants and crave the attention, but he dosen't. Read on! This is in third person. Also, the song above is "lovely" by Billie Eilish and Khalid.
The war was over. Voldemort had been vanquished. He'd received so many honours from the Wizengamot and the public, he was around to enjoy the new era of peace, and had even spoke out at the Malfoy's trial because (as much as Ron hated to admit it) Ferret face and Narcissa did the right thing in the end. Hell, Malfoy actually wrote a letter of apology! But then why did he feel so guilty every day that he woke up, felt a twinge or pain in his chest every time he saw his little godson Teddy giggle? And why did he break down secretly inside every time someone said the word "always?"
Because it just wasn't right. Harry was alive because he was "the chosen one" but what about all those who died in the war? They deserved a second chance too. Just to name a few: Fred, Tonks, Sirius, Remus, Moody.....not to mention James and Lily Potter. His mother and father. All these people would be alive if he wasn't born. Yes, he knew what Hermione would say about his moping, something resembling a lecture about how this was just the Dark Lord's fault and no one else's, but he knew better than this. He knew that at the center of it all, HE, HARRY POTTER, the Boy who Lived was the one to blame.
And so Harry Potter, who was slowly breaking into pieces, summoned every ounce of Gryffindor bravery he ever had and built up a porcelain mask to face the masses. For the next few weeks he hid under his porcelain mask, smiling and waving for the people, signing autographs in children's notebooks, and being a perfect little saviour on the outside, while inside, his heart cracked from the grief and the sorrow. He boarded the scarlet train on platform 9 3/4 and went back to Hogwarts, the place which held so many memories, sorrowful and joyful, to continue his last year of schooling, with his new mask in place.
Little did he know that sometimes Draco Malfoy is a bit too perceptive and nosy for his own good..
