After The Interrogation

I messed up, and I messed up big time. What the heck was I thinking! Oh right, I wasn't. I didn't even try to defend my choice of words as I slumped over into the lobby where the rest of my friends were still waiting. My eyes drifted over to Ari, Maya's cousin, head in her hands sobbing as she rocked back and forth. The room had an eerie and depressed aura to it. Like a newly emptied hospital room.

I decided to walk to where she and the other members of the Gucci Gang were sitting.

"Hey" I mumbled weakly, I felt like I had to force the word out of my diaphragm. Like I was regurgitating it from the ever deepening pit inside of me. Nya and Maxwell looked up. The girl quickly bounced up to wrap me in a long hug as I started crying again.

"Are you okay? That officer was rude" she asked after we had both let go.

"Yeah I'm fine." I sniffled.

"How did it go?", I was pretty sure she knew the answer, but I spoke up anyway.

"Not that great" I put on a weak smile as Max popped up to give me a hug too, just a quick one.

"So what should I be expecting from this guy?" he chimed in.

It was then I went into a most likely loud and long rant about how woman can be police officers too, which quickly  branched into a rant about how the whole system is founded on white supremacy and should've been revamped a long time ago.

Me and Nyarai were back at our dorm a few hours later after making a brief trip to the mailbox and the nearby grocery store to pick up seven pints of various flavored Ben and Jerry's and the Glee version of the popular Wii game Just Dance I had ordered a few weeks prior.

I sat on my bed, ratchet old laptop in hand and earphones plugged in and I ran through as many mind numbing episodes of The Office as I could.  Snuggling deep into my pastel comforter hoping to forget the travesty if only for a moment Nya meanwhile was on the floor next to her bed guzzling down a pint of original chocolate ice cream. I didn't even question her flavor choice, as bland as it was. I just lay there, trying my hardest to be apathetic until I apparently drifted to sleep.

Sleep was nice. My dreams never really scared me, not deeply at least. Therefore it was a nice escape from the absolutely petrifying life I was living in my waking hours. Dreams filled with me falling in love with a beautiful cottage core and running of to live in the autonomous zone together in Oregon. Or going back to school with Maya fulling alive and well, running through the halls to give her the biggest squeeze I could ever muster and promising her we'd get the others together as soon as we could.  Yes, sleep was a nice change of pace. But sleep doesn't last forever. Neither does the weekend.

                                                                           THE FOLLOWING WEEK

After concluding my sad and uneventful weekend with a good nights rest, the harsh, vicious sound of my alarm clock rang into my ears at exactly 6:15. I slumped up into a seated position and looked to my left. My roommate was already up and at' em' forking up a mouth full of fresh pancakes.

 "Hey Em"

"I'm not going" I knew it was selfish to stay home when the other's were probably bucking up and heading to class, but  I just couldn't, I just needed one more day. Sweet Nya though had understood. Without me even having to say another word she simply nodded in reply and left me to fall victim to the drowning pink softness I swam back into.

I woke up again at about twelve and scrolled through Reddit for a half hour while playing some background TV, (That 70's Show), before hopping out of bed and throwing on a rainbow starry night shirt and a light brown overall dress. I slipped in my Vans and headed out the door. I knew what I should do, I should go see how Ari is holding up through all of this. It was my job.

So I trotted over to Ari and Nicky's dorm with a gentle smile and gave a tiny little knock on the door.

"What" someone half asked, half groaned from inside.

"It's Emily"

"Get in here before you get caught and get us both in trouble"

I walked in slowly, worried if I moved to fast she would shatter into a million pieces on the odd brown carpet.

" Shouldn't you be in class Emily, it's a school day."

"Yep"

"Well than why are you here!"

" I came to cheer you up!"

" I don't need cheering up what I need is for you to leave"

"Oh... okay"

I slipped out of the room as quickly as I came and started to walk back to me and Nya's Room. On the way however I saw the same blondie I had met a few nights prior.

"Hey! I saw you on Friday!" I beamed.

"Uh yeah" she said meekly.

"So are you skipping class?"

"Um, yeah"

She doesn't speak much does she.

"Bye!"

I figured I might as well end the conversation on a high note. I knew right from the get go I want to be her friend. Luckily that little randevouis put me in a much better mood as I continued skipping to my room. Then once I arrived I commenced to have a long vigorous session of Just Dance Glee Addition until I had to run to the toilet bowl and vomit. I finally felt like I had had a relatively normal day in my life.

Finally.
